Surfing on you tube and this one struck me as quirky but possibly legit. ,First used by Pennsylvania Dutch farmers in their tractors. It is standard item used in paints kinda sorta like linseed oil and it is available in food grade purity for maintaining Butcher block counters, etc. Here is the link:

Note 1st part is history and what it does, 2nd is how to use I'm mostly asking if there is anything to this. TIA

What would that do but cause problems? I used to work with a guy that swore by putting atf in his engine at every oil change because his dad told him to do it and he got over 200k out of his old Nissan pickup doing that. People will swear by home remedies without even knowing how they would possibly help. People make all kinds of claims, we have enough technology to allow us the ability to be able to prove things work instead of guessing or believing wives tales.

I didn't watch the video.

Back in the dark ages of internal combustion, when motor oil was barely refined, tung may have had some beneficial property that somewhat reduced sludge buildup or reduced foaming, perhaps at the cost of lubricity, etc... kinda like prescribing whiskey for a headache.

With modern oil additive chemistries combined with vastly superior base oil stocks, there's no point in this kind of stuff. Modern oil has anti wear compounds, dispersants, friction modifiers, seal conditioners and other chemicals that is cheaper, more effective, has fewer side effects, is less toxic, etc.
