Fine, don't change them, just run them as they are. While you're at it don't brush your teeth and let the dentist pull them out one at a time... or, for that matter, why bother changing the engine oil.."there's still oil drippin' off the stick".
Point is, there is a major difference between maintenance and fixing. I'd rather take the easier and cheaper route and just "go an extra mile" and maintain. If that means changing the transmission fluid and rear end after so many miles, so be it. If you own a corvette you have a car that is worth taking care of very well, as there are many homes in Nebraska that are not even as expensive as a corvette. ALL cars should be maintained, not just the expensive ones or they 'will' become more of an expensive one.

Change that rear end oil out yourself and save some money. Simple job. Some paper towels, a good socket wrench, drain pan and gasket material and you're all set. Piece of cake on the rear end. Transmission is a bit more involved because of their very nature in not having a drain plug. That too can be fixed.

Is that a good neighborhood in Nebraska? What does the real estate run in Nebrasks? I'm in California so it is sky high here.

As far as rear end and trans goes I'll just have dealership do the change and supply the fluids to them if I find something better than what they use.

I followed BITOG recommendations for fluid and filter maintenance and took care of my girlfriend's 98 Escort ZX2 since she bought it new. Her friends are amazed that she's still enjoying the car and not having serious issues after 171K. This is while her friends are laying out good money for new cars. She gets lots of offers for her car, but she's not interested in getting rid of it.

Western Nebraska houses have sold recently for 20-30 thousand. We had our 4 bedroom 2 bath listed in western Nebr. at 18,000 for quite some time before it sold. Land there is about 300.00 / acre and some places maybe a bit more and might be a bit less.

So "Vettes" are definitely worth taking care of

You have got to be kidding me. Houses here are 400,000 to over a million. A Corvette costs the same as a house somewhere in Nebraska in a decent neighborhood?

Yes and very decent neighboorhood. Most of the people there don't lock the houses at night, or even their cars. I've been to gas stations in the winter, left my car running and went inside, nothing locked no alarms. Very quiet and peaceful. A few years ago we looked at buying a piece of property north of Lewellen, NE. It was 150 acres with irrigation canal running through it and good water rights, a 3 bedroom house with well, septic..all that, a barn, corralls, an oak shed. They raised corn and alfalfa on the place. Price it sold for before we got the money in line at the bank.....$40,000

People drive good and decent vehicles back there.. Buicks, Dodge, Fords, etc nice 4x4 trucks but their tractors and combines are the expensive things. Good tractor in that parts is rather expensive.

That is less than a new Corvette of today. There has got to be something to this. Tornadoes? Bad weather? Too hot? That is a early 70's price here in California.

Major ideal behind real estate but these days people are multiplying at an astronomical rate. Need more space and privacy which is no longer possible in the state of California.
