Good morning,

I drove into a small ditch headon and fell two feet into it, luckily ther ñe.was some.branches that cushioned the head on sudden stop, fortunately i or the vehicle occupants didnt suffer any harm. The vehicle also didnt suffer any apparent.harm though.afterwards i saw the.the trunk didnt latch closed. Is this something that is recommendable that a body shop take care of?

Here are pics of the trunk:

so to be sure I'm reading that correctly, the car went nose first into a small ditch, and now the trunk doesn't latch?

how was it removed from the ditch?
were you able to drive it out?
or did some one have to pull it out?
if so, where did they attach the cable/strap/rope/etc?
could they have pulled something out of "square"?

I’d think it may have bent the rear body panel when you got tugged out, assuming that’s how you got out of the ditch. If the trunk is close to latching there may be enough adjustment in the latch or hinges to make it work. Otherwise some persuasion with a hammer around the latch area on the rear body panel may be all it needs. A body shop could definitely make it latch but I’d check into it a bit more if it were mine.

BFH with padding between it and paint, unless it's off to the side too much then the whole rear may be warped and needs a pro involved. Remove all brittle lenses, trim, before attempting to move metal. Work slowly and check progress.

Earlye,
Correct, the car went into a ditch and drove out of it later.

The ditch did have a gradual slope connected to the road so I was able to drive out of the ditch. No one towed or tugged the car with a rope.

Check the receiver latch at bottom to see if it was closed by someone touching it with trunk open.?

Sorry, Dont understand.

I am going to get some quotes from body shops.

Cheers

What 40w8 was saying is that if the latch has tripped while the trunk is open, it won't close. Try putting the key in, turn it as if to open the trunk, then release and remove key, then try to close the lid.

Also (if equipped) check that the trunk release handle inside the car isn't stuck in the up position.

You need to crouch down and see how the latch meets up with the striker plate. Might need to hammer the striker plate over to the side a little bit to get it to line up.

I had this issue before the ditch accident, where the latch wouldnt close on the trunk.

After the ditch accident, problem is still there and gap can be seen between the trunk and body.

Cheers

Put putty on the latch parts and push the lid closed gently to leave a mark in the putty how they line up.

Then loosen the bolts on the latch and move it how it needs to go. You could also try moving it just downward if you're not going to be real scientific about it.

Just a guess but it looks like the impact or sudden stop caused the trunk door to slide forward, because it looks the the trunk door is not back far enough rearward it can't even go down to cover the bumper. Might be able to loosen the fasteners on the trunk door or the arms to pull the trunk door back rearward so it goes over the bumper and then tighten it back up.

yes that is not the issue

apparently the ditch accident pushed in the truck a bit so that may be the reason why the trunk doesnt close.

If you had the issue before and its worse now, you probably tweaked the body slightly when you went in the ditch.
You could try adjusting it out with the latch mechanism, or possibly have it taken to a bodyshop that can pull the fame back straight again...
