No matter how well I try to protect my previous 2 cycle weed trimmer engines - they always die within two years . That is using top tier gas , Stabil and name brand 2 cycle oil . I have stored 2 cycle engines filled up for winter and run dry for winter - no difference detected ...still have gummed up carbs , eaten away rubber parts , etc. Just bought a new Toro power head (25.4cc) commerical engine and decided to try the TrueFuel 50:1 fuel . Yes , the TrueFuel is much more expensive than gas plus mixing myself but since I only use my weed trimmer about 6 times a season - I'm hoping with TrueFuel my 2 cycle engine will last at least 3+ years . Any one with experience to add ?

Truefuel is a good ethanol free product that should be much easier on your rubber and plastic trimmer pieces. Another option is Stihl motomix. How are your trimmers failing? Are they throwing a rod, losing compression, or just failing to start for you?

I know it's pretty expensive. I was gonna try it once when my mower and trimmer got gummed up 3 winters ago.

Instead of paying such a premium for this canned gas, I just use a 1-gallon tank and put enough in it to mow the yard (both weed eater and lawn). If there is any left, it goes into the car or truck.

The trick is, I don't put regular gas in it. I have two alternatives that have given me great results. I live by a lot of lakes, and you might to, being in Georgia. Several marinas around here carry Ethanol-Free Premium fuel. A lot of boaters prefer to use it. It's not costly either.

The other option I've used is race gas. TrueBlue110 Leaded fuel. Works great. No problems ever.

I run the TrueBlue in my GoPed too....a crazy stand up scooter. It's a 62cc 17:1 compression and goes Zero-60mph faster than anything I've raced yet.

Failing to start and keep running ...last two were Ryobi's . Estimate to repair (carb repair / cleaning , replace fuel lines , primer bulb , etc.) was pushing $90.00 for parts & labor .

Phishin : I found a place locally through puregas.org that sells ethanol free gas for $4.75 per gal. Regular 87 octane (with ethanol) currently is selling for $3.83 per gal . * For the convenience and peace of mind I will see how it goes with the TrueFuel unless my usage starts to become too high - then pure gas is an option plus adding two cycle premium oil with a fuel stabilizer.

Whats funny is I use E10 ethanol fuel in all of my lawnmowers, weed eaters, snow blowers...always have since they started selling it and have never used fuel stabilizer either.

It ever dawn on you all your weed eaters die because of something YOU'RE doing wrong? I've never had any issues.

Funny I have a Ryobi 2800r 2T trimmer that runs on nothing but E10+ sta-bil+Esso 2T oil, and that thingy has been with us for over 8+yrs now, still starts during the 1st or 2nd pull at the start of every season.

I guess my E10 fuel is fresher in our region than yours, while all other things being equal?

Q.

While you might look at the cost per gallon of the premix if your not in the business and have a reasonable size yard, you can look at the cost per season. I am thinking the OP might use at most one or two QTs a year. So $10. A done deal in my mind.

No question that E0 is better than E10 fuel, the only question to be answered is does E10 serve your needs well enough.

I keep some 40:1 and 50:1 on hand. I think its good for two years. Between weed-whacker, blower and chain saw (if needed) maybe I will go through 2 QTs a year.

For me the mice can be a larger problem. They seem to find the gas lines on 2-cycle OPE a delicacy. Of course Billy the cat finds the mice a delicacy.

That site appears to be down for me.

I use trufuel in my 2 stroke equipment now. They run much cleaner and they definitely run better on it. Exhaust also doesn't stink like it does on regular 2 stroke gas/oil mix.

Basically same for my approx 10 year old, $59 weed eater, just toss it in the corner at the end of the season and it's always started next spring... I did have to replace the plastic fuel lines this year, as it had gotten brittle and the pickup in the tank broke the line(had same issue on a Craftsman chainsaw I had to fix as well)... We'll blame the fuel line issues on E10 if it makes anyone feel better...

As far a oil mixture, I mix it heavy & never measure, just pour oil in the tank and shake it to mix... Last time I used it with a mix of 5W-50 QSUD...
