i dont think so. the alternator has some loss associated with it (the windings have resistance etc etc) and this is given off as heat. so the heat from the engine and the heat from generating power both make the alternator hot. most alternators have a small fan to help keep the unit cool. it does not seem to do a great job but it seems to be enough.quote:
