Well, my wife drives an Isuzu Rodeo (vehicle known to consume a bit of oil) and we've tried M1, mobil drive clean, heavier weights of M1 and they all were consumed by about a 1/4 quart or more per 1000 miles...Usually about a full quart within 3,000 miles...

We just did an OCI with Trop Artic 5W30 for the first time and it only consumed about 1/4 of a quart in just over 3,000 miles...The car has over 88,000 miles on it at the end of the Trop artic oci....

We've used Chevron and Havoline with similar results to the Trop Artic...But it's impressive to see an oil with such a low cost stand up to consumption like that...

It's a good oil. It's also thicker at 100*C than many other oils, coming in at 10.9 cst.

With the Isuzu i'd probably stick with TropArtic 10w30. It's still semi-synthetic, and has some of the best cold temp operating characteristics of any non full synthetic oil, and you may see your comsumption drop to zero.

My Sams club here in Texas has TropArtic 10w30 for less than 20 bucks per case.

interesting observation:

what year is that rodeo? (I'm a fellow rodeo owner)

I've heard a few success stories with 5w40 rotella in the isuzu engines. Slowing down or stopping oil consumption.

My 95 rodeo has 196,000+ miles on it. burns a qt every 1000 miles, which is the norm for man of these engines unfortunately. Has been that way as long as I have owned it.

Try Maxlife 10w30 next time.
