I have an '07 Triumph Speed Triple. The recommended oil is Mobil 1 4t 15w50 only available at the Triumph Dealer for $50.00 for 4L. It is supposed to be specially formulated for Triumphs. Many people use the standard Mobil 1 15w50 available at Walmart for $25.00 with no problems. I bought a gallon of the stuff and also have a gallon of the Mobil 1 15w50 "extended performance" which is supposed to have 50% more SuperSyn. Can I use this (extended performance) without issues with the clutch (slippage). I change one a year at about 2500 mi OCI.

I would use the regular Mobil 1 15w50 but the extended performance is a different formula. But with a 2500 OCI you should be fine. Have you considered the Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50 from Autozone? Very nice additive package for your bike and speced for wet clutch applications.
I haven't tried the Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50 from Autozone. How much is it? Hard to beat the Walmart price on the M1 for the gallon.
Some Walmarts carry the Mobil 1 20w50 V-twin for around $8.50 a qt. AZ is probably around $10.

I have a (08) Sprint ST. I have agonized over the oil price myself, for Mobil Triumph 15w-50. You know that they recommend 6000 mile ocis with this oil?
I am almost inclined to think, that the Triumph clutch likes an oil close to an HDEO, and is "sort of sensitive", to moly.
I know that Mobil has moly. But, I am not sure about the content in the Mobil Triumph specific 15w-50.
I would stick with a low moly content HDEO 40 or 50 weight oil, using your 2500 mile ocis.

I have used Mobil 20w-50 v twin oil, in a Victory Hammer(100 cu. in. six speed, with a 250mm rear tire) with good results. But, I liked the clutch performance of Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 better (3000 mile oci). You tell me.
If you use the auto Mobil 15w-50 (non-energy conserving, of course), I would definitely change it at a 2500 mile oci.
Oil analysis, has shown it shearing around this mileage. But my manual calls for 10w-40 and 15w-50, depending on climate. So shearing down to 40 weight, may not be a concern in cool weather.
I change my oil at an 3000 mile oci(severe driving), so I am on the fence about spending $50.00 a gallon for, what is probably an expensive and over priced HDEO.
But bottom line, the bike runs good with this oil. There is always that.

I've looked at the euro specs on Mobil 1 15w50 oil, and far as I can tell the Mobil 1 15w50 silver cap at walmart , is the same thing.
actually the flash point is better on the non mc labled oil, but the mc stuff is all mark up. They recently brought back the old silver cap 15w50, it works fine in wet clutches

Love the bike! Torque all over the RPM range. Almost bought the Street Triple, then bought this wheelie machine. On the website "thespeedtriple.com" someone sent in unused examples of the Triumph Mobil 1 ($50.00 for 4L) and the Silver Cap Mobil 1 ($25.00 for 5 qts at WalMart) for analysis and the difference was minor. There was slightly higher Moly in the Silver Cap, although no one reports any problems or clutch slippage with it. It is just so hard to justify double the cost because the container says "Triumph" on it. Do a search on that website for the actual numbers, or I can post it later. I will probably stick with the Silver Cap.

I have a 2005 model and have been using a few different oils searching for one that helps with smoothing the gearchange (not worried about analysis yet as I change it at very small intervals).
Best so far for shifting has been Silkolene 10W 40 Comp oil and the worst has been Amsoil 20W 50. Really suprised/disappointed with the Amsoil considering how much its raved about on here but there was only one word as far as I am concerned, it rhymes with trap and starts with a 'C'. It felt really notchy from the beginning and got slightly worse over the 1000klms that I kept it in. It was also like sowing machine oil when I removed it too, which I thought quite strange as it has been the heaviest oil that I've used so far.
Just put BP Superbike 15W 50 in so will start the test this weekend and see how this one goes. Haven't tried the Mobil yet because every time I go to buy it I can't find it. Even my Triumph dealer only sells and recommends Motul so he must be getting a good deal on that oil : ). Some day I'll try what Triumph have recommended!!

My Triumph dealer stocks the overpriced Triumph M1 and Motul. I am currently running the Motul 5100 ester 15w50 semi. and the bike shifts very smoothly. After the bike breaks in, I will use both the Silver Cap M1 and one run of the Triumph stuff to see if there is a difference. The silver cap M1 is actually cheaper than the Motul which is approx. $8.00 per qt. where I get it.

I have an '01 S3 with 33,000 trouble free miles, and stopped buying the Triumph branded oil after a few oil changes. The Silver Cap 15/50 will work fine in your bike, especially if you change your oil at 3-4,000 miles. I use that and Red Line 15/50. I park the bike with the mobil over the winter, and then change to the Red Line in the spring after a few thousand.
