Treadwear - GY Reliants

2013 Pilot 4WD

Tread when new = 10/32". After ~12k miles, tread = 7-8/32''. Rotated once so far.

At this rate, they won't last the rated 65k miles. I kind of expected this going in. However, they still ride well; handle surprisingly decent in the rain. Will so how this changes as they wear further.

I assume it was the UTQG rating that said 65k.

A set of Bridgestone Turanzas with Serenity* had a UTQG rating of 80,000 miles.
With rotations and perfect alignment, I got 51,000 out of them. OK, my V70 was a "2-ton car".
The tire seller told me they'd (B'stone) would only listen to me if I had documented rotations and even then, wouldn't compensate me.
He personally told me my 51k was just short of unbelievable (real good).
It's a harsh world out there.
Why don't they just call it...MGR, for Marketing Gimmick Rating?

And don't overlook YOUR driving style...climate...weight of vehicle

The only place I would consider a warranty claim for something like this is yes if you had all the documentation and if it was from costco. The reliants I put on an 18' kia were so cheap i wouldnt bother. 4WD factors into it too.

I should check the ones on my Wife's CRV as they're probably nearing 10k. I don't have any complaints about them so far. If I got 50k out of them I'd be happy for what I paid.

How long have the tires been on the car?

Went and checked for fun and mine are 7-8/32 as well with 1 year and 8500 miles on them.. We'll see how long they make it. I haven't rotated yet, but am due for an oil change soon so they'll get moved then.

Just an FYI.

Most tire wear occurs in the cornering mode. Driving straight ahead is practically free. So if you drive in the city, with all those turns, you're not going to vet as many miles as someone who drives in the country.

I've seen the same tire wear out in 15k that also went 1000k on another vehicle and the only difference is where they were being used.

So why have tire wear warranties if the wear is so variable? Dealers need to have something they can use to sell product.

A pal had a set of Michelin somethin-somethins (MX4 X-plus?) as OE on a '99 Honda Accord V6.
There was tread on them when replaced at 96,000.

At a tidal bore in Canada, I spoke with a guy with a similar Honda who replaced his good tires (not sure of brand, but I assume....) at 86K, before taking that road trip.

Michelin CC at Costco made it less than half the miles before outer and inner edges wore out with the center still fine. Aligned, rotated regularly, air pressure kept slightly above spec. Costco wouldn’t do anything for proration and pointed the finger at Michelin. Michelin said I had to go through the authorized retailer. Back and forth until I gave up.

I went through similar with Costco and Michelin. They won’t help you if treadwear isn’t totally even across the entire surface. Even with proof of alignment, rotations and balancing. Pretty upsetting to spend that much on tires and get such short life.
