All seems normal pressure gauge and start up but that pressure gauge that flickered for a sec makes me wonder...Is this oil circulating as it should. I do recall I heard a snap sound just before the gauge flickered...is this the bypass. Makes me wonder?:!?!?!!!

I suppose you could open it up and see or run it by the company (I've gotten alot of help from Dixon there, [email protected]). It was making me think, without anti-drainback it's got to fill with oil first at startup. In other words it's like putting on a new (empty) oil filter every startup.

Since the bypass valve closes when the engine is off, the oil has to pass backwards through the "bypass filter media" to drain back. So for a daily driver, the setup appears to work fine without an ADBV.

I've got a Trasko filter in my wife's '03 Highlander, and it's working fine. Several others are using it without problems - see the Bypass Filter Forum. I've got around 2000 miles on this filter so far.

JUST TALK TO DIXON ON THE TRASKO FILTER WHAT HAPPENED WAS THE SYNTHETIC 0-30WT TAKES A WHILE TO ABSORBS IN THE FILTER MEDIA. GOT TO ADMIT NOTHING SEEMS TO ABNORMAL BOUT THE FILTER, ALWAYS CLEAN OIL GOING THROUGH THE ENGINE. YEA WHEN YOU TALK WITH HIM EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE. THIS FILTER IS GREAT FOLKS FILTERS DOWN TO THE SUB MICRON. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT....

Folks this filter was design in Japan and it is unique as a sub micron filtered oil filter. The design of the filter makes a lot of sense and is used by racing cars and in no way an unproven filter. It's construction is as solid than any other spinoff market filter and I must say after a trial run I'm a believer in the Trasko filter. The filter is tough as nail and as long as my oil looks like it's clean and new as it was first poured in, I haven't seen an easier oil filter to work with. It's a great product and it WORKS!!!....God Bless All....

But there is no true ADBV like other filters (the better filters use silcon gaskets). Yes oil would either have to backflow through the media, or might slowly drain back because of the bypass valve being shut. But it will eventually drain because nothing closes over the inlet holes.

Which was my original point, in my Chrysler minivan the filter is oriented downward at 30 degrees, anything is the screen mesh will not get a gentle backflushed. I wonder, in the Toyota is it horizontal? If so, when you change your filter, any fluids come out (the no mess filter change!)? The volume has got to be less than a cup (so that's what an extra second to come up to full oil pressure)? And the worst case is something floating around is just going back and forth between filter and sump (via pump and screen), but never into the engine per se. So is it "much ado about nothing".

My Dad has my old Trasko on his Tacoma. I had it on my 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4.7V8. I did not have any pressure problems or temp problems. I have to admit I did get nervious though when BOb started his oil flow tests and had issues with the Amsoil unit!

My Dad has had this on his truck for a while. The first time you run it you have to change the filter at 5000 miles. We did this about a month ago. He is running M1 10W30. It has not used any oil and we have only toped it up to make up for filter change.

When he hits 10,000 miles we are going to test the oil! We will see if Trasko is up to the job. THe oil is not crystal clear but for 6000 miles of winter use it looks realy good!

I belive that the truck has around 150,000 miles on it.

I almost forgott. The special filter media does not show any signs of channeling! It was as black as tar!

Has anyone had an oil analysis using the Trasko Oil Filter. Be interesting how well this filter works..

I like the idea of the trasko but don't care for the execution. Maybe if it used a standard cartridge filter + other choices(other brands) for the bypass portion I'd grab one. I just want the option of using competitor toilet rolls(even if I have to saw it to fit).

Increased capacity/cooling can be had by stepping up to an oversized Trasko inplace of the standard size. Plus, even the regular trasko has fins/thermal mass that should help with oil cooling.

No adbv is something I'd worry about. With the cold start issues in northern states, I'd want a working ADBV and bypass(not stuck open). ADBV is something that Trasko needs to address.
