so a few days ago my transmission started slipping. I guess its that this is the first vehicle that I have ever owned and run that has an auto trans (manual is the default in england) and it wasnt on my mind as to how important it is to keep up on maint'.......[censored] it have done so many other jobs,,,just overlooked it.
so i dropped the pan (what a [censored] messy job that is!?.....like errr, why no drain plug??!!) and put in a new filter with about 4.5 qts of Valvoline Fully Synthetic Dex VI with a bottle of Lubeguard red.
I was gutted when it slipped once on the first drive afterwards but since then, its been fine and is getting better.
to keep things running good i have pulled the trigger on a Tru-cool aux cooler and a magnefine filter!!
I called and spoke to a guy at Magnefine, had a good chat with him. When I asked him about the micron filtration, he said that it was closer to 25 than 30. He also told me that the actual paper filter is German made and that he manufacturer only makes these filters for Magnefine.
I learned that these filter were originally developed by Ford and that due to problems with the systems, Ford is using them as a factory install on new Flex models and also the Lincoln Navigators.
Instead of putting it on the return line, the guy advised me to put the magnefine before the cooler so that stuff from the transmission does not enter the new cooler thus keeping it clean and efficient.
so there it is.....I just wanted to share my experience and new found knowledge......
