For the record, while that may be true of Toyota filters, the ones in my Ford 4R70W and in my Buick TH400 are made of material that looks like engine oil filter media. They are more than just "rock-catcher" screens.


My Jeeps filter is of the oil filter media type as well.
 
It should be a "felt" type and not be a paper type from all of the variations I have seen. Either way they are not usually rated below 100 microns. This is why any light truck/car transmission should have some kind of secondary filtration added along with a quality fluid.
