This thread is a good example of my biggest pet peeve with automotive forums like this!
1) Someone has a problem which they require help in troubleshooting/solving.
2) They start a thread on the relevant automotive forum asking for help.
3a) Members take time to engage OP in thread with their own experience, advice and suggestions, with the hope of helping bring the issue to some sort of resolution.
3b) In the process of 3a), the other members become emotionally invested in the outcome of the OP's situation. (No, not cry-if-he-doesn't-reply emotionally invested, but genuinely-curious-of-outcome-and-actually-rooting-for-OP-success emotionally invested, right?)
4) Once OP either gets problem fixed or realizes it cannot be fixed and no further interaction with forum members is necessary, the OP abruptly stops updating the thread or replying to posts in thread asking about an update.
5) Assisting members are left to wonder if their help was at all useful, and what the real cause of the problem (and fix as well) so that they can add that to their mental inventories for subsequent use in other threads.
6) And nothing...OP never returns to provide closure on thread's original issue.
I FRIGGIN' HATE THIS!!!
I just created a thread in another model-specific forum I belong to that basically asked all members to please do the rest of us a favor and update any threads they start asking for help with an outcome of some sorts. Whether successful or unsuccessful, let us know if we helped at all! We'll see if my thread does any good. I'm not holding my breath though; there will always be people creating memberships just to solve a problem and once solved, they're gone, long gone...until the next problem anyway.
Anyway, I apologize for butting in on this thread and venting on everyone, but it doesn't look like the OP will mind too much, and it was just such a perfect example of what really gets my goat, that I couldn't resist...
I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...
