Trans stop leak additive

My girlfriends 2005 cavalier has developed a very slight seepage of oil from the trans. seals where the axle's go in to the trans housing.

I was at O'Rileys and found several brands of some seal stop leak.

Is there one brand that will help the problem,,,,I really do not want to pull the axles and pry out the seals if I dont' half to. Looks like a lot of work dealing with the suspension system in getting the axle's out.

How bad is it? Remember with these products you swell one seal you swell them all.
If its only weeping and doesn't use much fluid i probably wouldn't bother.

There's a bunch on the market each with a different following. "Lucas Transmission Fix" says it stops transmission leaks. It's a very thick product and literally takes about ten minutes to pour into your transmission. (24 oz bottle). I think "Trans X" also advertises a leak seal additive. I only used it once when I lived in California over 20 years ago. As I recall, it's a thin liquid colored blue. So I guess it depends on if you want thick or thin.

Honestly replacing the seals is the way to go. Anything you pour in there may stop the leaks and will stop the transmission as well. Only thing i would use in there aside from fixing it properly is maybe maxlife transmission fluid in a fluid change. Most likely will not fix the leak like replacing the seals would.

Not sure if I'd want it in a trans - but I've stopped a couple PS leaks by using the Lucas stop leak and high-mileage ATF after.

'very slight' - is it low enough to warrant adding fluid? I'd start with adding HM fluid as needed before going to a full on stop leak product.

You could try Auto-Rx. But it will take a few thousand miles. I would not go for a bottle of magic trans leak fix. The seals you mention should not be a big problem to replace. Not compared to rear main on an engine at least. Get them replaced and inspect the shaft also. The area where the shaft touches the seal has to be basically perfect.

None of these stop leak products work, just replace the seal.

Thanks guys for the good advice,,,,,the leak is a seep so slight that there is not even a drip. There is just a heavy film around both seals. It forms each time I change the engine oil at 5K. The trans is one of those that does not have a dip stick,,PITA of course,,but I found a check plug under the car,,so far I get fluid out of the plug with the engine running and in park.

When the seals go south,,I will change them,,,that is what I put a lift in my shop/garage for.
