Some idiot flipped his car in a parking lot, and landed it on top of my neighbor's one year old Cruze.

The insurance company totaled it out, and she went to go buy another new Cruze.

However, she came home in a new Malibu... telling me that she was able to get a Malibu for $3000 less than a comparable new Cruze.

Apparently, yes... they are pricing the new Malibus to move, in advance of the new model.

How? Cruze's are around $20,000 and Malibu's around $28,000. You're saying she got a new Malibu for $17,000?

Anyway here are the photos. It is built on the XTS, Lacrosse, Impala chassis just shortened. Has a Regal GTS, ATS drive train with an auto. Scoots right along with the Turbo. Surprised me.

If you notice all my other cars have some age and I do all my own work on them. The steering wheel on the Equinox had this nick right were I put my hand annoyed the snout out of me and they replaced it under warranty. The kids don't need car seats now and the wife wanted something with some bells and whistles...
This thing has all that lane avoidance stuff, internet, heated seats, sunroof and a bunch of other stuff. It is very similar to the Grand Prix. Plus I paid the balance of it off. It was money I was saving for a Camaro, which won't happen because I had to pay off my goofy Baby Boomer generation parent's car to the tune of 6800 because they made poor choices. So the Malibu was pretty good deal for us.

Right now if she got an LS most likely.

BC.

I have a friend who lives in a van [not down by the river, though]
Instead of something big/fancy, or buying something overpriced, we live in a simple 1 br apt and save the difference. If the market drops (hard to predict around here), we might buy. Otherwise we're happy living below our means.
Just because you can afford something doesn't mean you have to, or need to, buy it. I know, its un-American.

Comfy-looking seats - should be a nice highway cruiser.

You know it is possible for some to drive a decent car AND still put money away?

Sharp car, love the color and good call going with the turbo. If you get a decent amount on trade, you can sometimes lose money selling private party. On most states, you only pay sales tax on the difference between the new car and trade in amount - on a late model vehicle this can easily be a couple thousand.

True. Sales tax here is 8.7 percent. I paid 900ish dollar in tax. Without the trade it would have been 2160ish.

Anyway, I really like this car. Much quieter than anything I have owned.

Californian pays sale tax on full purchase price before any trade in.

Nice car

Malibu has been a sales flop in Australia for some reason. Maybe they'd do better if that engine was available here - we only get the choice of a N/A 2.4 petrol, or a 2.0 turbo diesel. Best of luck with the car, sounds like you got a good deal on it.

GM has come a long, long way based off my recent rentals of Malibu and moreover the Impala and Cruze is decent.

GM using some imported designs(Cruze) and collaborating with design engineers outside the United States(Malibu) has have come up with wonderful cars.

Handsome car, with a good-looking interior. I like the way the dash curves to meet the curves of the door.

Regal GTS drivetrain -- so, the 2.0 Turbo, 259hp, with the 6-speed manumatic tranny? I've been having fun with the transmission on my 2.4L, flicking into manual and then downshifting on the highway or bridge for a little extra oomph. Hasn't hurt my gas mileage at all, and I truly enjoy driving it. I'll bet you could surprise some people with the get-up-and-go of what looks at first glance like a sedate family car.

I meant to say GS, but was thinking ATS...So it came out GTS.

But yes same drivetrain. I think the difference is in the GS you can get a 6 speed manual. In the ATS I believe the engine produces 272HP most likely due to tunning and shorter intake path.

I won't drive it much as it is wife's car. She has to have something to drive.

Personally, I think the new 2016 Malibu looks a lot better, but obviously you won't be able to get such a great deal on it as on the outgoing 2015 model. Sounds like you got a lot of car for the money. Congrats!
