Toyota plastic dipsticks

Why???? The oil dipstick in my 05 Camry finally broke. The plastic end snapped off. I replaced it with a metal one. For the first time since 08 when we got the car I'm confident I know my oil level. With the plastic one it was dip, look, and wipe, repeated 3 times then make a hopefully reasonably competent guess. How much could Toyota be saving??? Charge $5.00 more for the car and give us a decent dipstick. I don't get it.

Weird...my 07 Tundra has a metal dipstick.

Most of my cars have had metal rod attached to a plastic handle. I keep waiting for the one in my 93 Shadow to break. The one in my 2001 Sentra broke off at the handle at 6 months old and the dipstick slid down into the engine. The dipstick tube was pressed into the block, so they had to basically mash it to get it out and press in a new one. Thank you, warranty.
