Toyota Pink, to flush or not to flush.

My parents have a 2005 Sienna and it uses the new Toyota Pink 10/150K coolant. The van has 36K on it. Is the coolant fine, or should it be flushed out now, like Toyota Red?

I think the pink is only 50/50 red with water, but I could be wrong.
I'm going to change mine next year (2-year mark) at 36k miles too.
I know, "it's a waste of money" so BITOG cheapskates don't bother scolding me

I will likely do a flush with water first...FWIW.

Toyota I believe has 2 kinds of antifreeze now; the traditional "Red" which is like a 3 year coolant, and the "Pink" which is a 5 year/150,000 mile coolant.

It's definitely good for another year at least.

I had the same question about the "Pink" in my 03 Tacoma. Asked a trusted Toyota mechanic and he said its good for 5 yr/100K miles - leave it alone.

I don't plan on dumping mine any time soon with only 31K miles on the truck. Toyota simply wants to sell anti-freeze.

From the online Toyota maintenance schedule for the Super Long Life pink coolant:
Initial replacement at 100,000 miles/120 months. Replace every 50,000 miles/60 months thereafter. See Maintenance Definitions (Engine Coolant) for details.

wow, ten years if you don't reach 100k on factory coolant. 10 years!

My Toyota wrench puts green Prestone in all Toyotas & Hondas. He says the coolant should be changed every 50k/3yrs maximum or you are asking for issues. He says the extra cost for the red or pink is a waste of money.

Yes, I agree. The green stuff has to be changed every 3 years. I haven't used the pink but the red is $8 more over 3 years? Negligible. Very happy with the red. Getting 10 years out of the pink would cost less, especially when you consider having to pay him to change it.

If it is PINK then it is the Ultra Long Life not the older Red Long LIFE. This is my $.02 I think it is better to periodicly change out some of it as a refresh then to let it go bad and need flushing. The Pink stuff comes premixed 50/50. It usualy sells for $12-$14 a gallon. I would drain the radiator and the resovoir every 2-3 years and refill. This usualy gets about 50% of the coolant out changed out. THis means that you never get oxidation, corrison or deposit issues and you never have to worry about flushing out the system either. I usualy do the same thing with transmission but do it by milage usualy every 18,000-30,000 depending on how much fluid comes out!

My Camry Radiator and resovoir holds exactly 1 gallon of premix pink ultra long life coolant. It is too easy to just drain the radiator and resovoir. I always was the resovoir out just for good measure.

Yes, you are wrong. Toyota Red is close to the color of cranberry juice when dilluted. Toyota Pink is pink like Pepto-Bismol. You cannot dillute red to get pink coolant. It sounds feasible, but it's not.
