Hey folks Ive asked this here before and didn't find the answer. I hate to ask again but I really need to find the answer and I can't register on the big toyota forum. I need to know if the 2.4 matrix has the same manual transmission bearing issue as the 1.8. I've found one priced to sell and I don't want to let it slip away but I must find out if it has the manual transmission issues too. Thanks.

hundreds of happy stick shift drivers are out there right now, whats stopping you?

I'm pretty sure the entire drive train for the 2.4L Matrix is the same as the Camry, so the transaxle/clutch assembly will be different than the Corollas. Never heard of any problems with Camry 5 or 6 speed manuals.

Why would it be the camry and not the corolla?

Because the 2.4L engine normally comes in the Camry. The Corolla standard engine is the 1.8L; the Corolla XRS comes with the Camry 2.4L/6 speed manual combo.

because Toyota is out of their mind and they rather develop a completely different 2.4L engine for the matrix then use the already available 2.4L engine in the camry...
