You can't check under the cap on these engines (or the 3MZ-FE V6) because of a baffle directly under the fill hole.

I think the newer 2GR-FE V6 has done away with the baffle.

Yeah then you have automatic transmission problems.

I'll tell you what.. my Camry has been fantastic even though the previous owner (my Sister) rarely had it serviced. I've been driving this car since 190K with no problems.

But if you're that paranoid then just look into the more common 4cyl Camry's. If the car runs smoothly, has a good set of records, and a responsible owner.. you'll be fine.

Other than that always ran great, and from 75k on always saw Valvoline max life syn-blend at 3-5k oci's. I can't say there was no sludge but I can say it always ran smooth and never gave us any problems, really reliable car.

You were most likely using Regular unleaded fuel for that to happen.

Yupp was always run on 87. My father doesn't believe in the need for premium gas, i dont know why. He just started using 89 instead of 87 in his G35 that hes had for a couple years. Will never go 91 or 93

The sludge really isn't a big deal, I've owned and still own many car's with the 1MZ-FE, none of which have sludge nor had sludge. I change the oil every 4-5k with whatever full-synthetic is on sale.
