In the next few months will be replacing plugs on a 2017 Corolla. When I had a Honda, NGK was the plug of choice. What's the best for Toyota to go another 100k+ miles? NGK? Denso? Are the Toyota plugs from the dealer in the Toyota boxes made by Denso or NGK or someone else?

It might even have 2 Denso and 2 NGK plugs from the factory :sneaky:

Either brand will be fine as long as you buy them from a reputable source. Denso Iridium TT, Denso Iridium Long Life, or NGK Laser Iridium are all good choices.

The dealer plugs are probably Denso Iridium Long Life
Dealer Plugs will be Denso Iridium Long-Life

I have bought both Dealer plugs and Denso plugs

from my experience:
Dealer plugs = Made in Japan
Denso plugs = Made with parts sourced from Japan

During the pandemic, I saw quality control issues with Denso plug tips not being "perfectly" straight, and the parts prices went up too high during the pandemic and stayed there.

with the parts prices and quality control issues, I buy from Toyota Dealerships online during Toyota's 25% off sale, and they are always cheaper than Denso parts from even RockAuto.

I prefer Denso over NGK for my Toyota as I have seen original Denso plugs from the factory with 200-250k miles that were still in serviceable condition, and for Toyotas Denso parts seem to be cheaper than NGK.

Word of warning... acquiring genuine NGK or Denso plugs these days can be a challenge. So many counterfeits on the market. Fleabay is pretty much guaranteed to send counterfeits. Jungle site warehouse or 3rd party sellers as well. Even with jungle site direct there's a non-zero probability to get non-genuine parts. The fakes are also getting more and more difficult to tell apart from the real parts. I've been burnt more than once.

What is the best place to get genuine NGK/Denso plugs at fair prices with low/free shipping besides RockA?

If you want to make sure the plugs are genuine, sparkplugs.com is a relielable source.

NGK actually links from their site to sparkplugs.com as their online vendor.

They sell Autolite, Bosch, Champion, Denso and NGK

This (y). High chance of getting bogus plugs from EBAY, and, sadlly Amazon.

I purchased my last set of NGK Iridium for Honda at AAP using an online discount code. Confident the purchase authentic. I picked up at store so unsure about minimum for free ship. My go to has been NGK, that said is OM lists Denso application, that would be a good choice too.

GEE,
You buy spark plugs so seldom, there are only four, and they last 100k miles.

Is it worth all the worry about finding out where to save a dollar or two on a spark plug? That from a questionable source, could be counterfeit?

Just buy four factory replacements at the dealer, and relax.

Sparkplugs.com is an independent dealer, small family owned shop but they are an authorized NGK dealer. I bought 02 sensors from them in the past, excellent service!

I'd say NAPA, I usually use my AAA card and the price is in line with other dealers (authorized).. After the fiasco of ordering beat up parts from RockAuto I wouldn't be buying spark plugs or anything from them again.

But NAPA hasn't ever had a beat up spark plug ever, so they earn my business.

Anytime I've seen plugs at the Toyota dealer they were made by Denso in Japan (as others have said).. My tC engine (Camry) came with NGK from the factory. Never had a problem, engine running smoothly. And as I said above this message, I get mine from NAPA.

Most Toyota owners manuals have the spark plug part numbers in the back.

Here is the section from the online 2017 owners manual. Might want to make sure its the same as yours.

I've also seen the opposite, mostly where Denso is the OE supplier to American cars. In that case, the OE Densos will be labeled made in USA with Japanese parts, while the aftermarket ones in the Denso box will say made in Japan.

Denso's US spark plug factory is in TN, so it might be close to the OEM that installs them

eBay and Amazon are legitimately a mine field for buying car parts.

I can vouch for Parts Container on eBay. I have purchased from them for almost 20 years and they are a legit retailer of all the major auto parts brands: NGK, Denso, Bosch, Bremi, AC Delco, Mann, etc. Shop with confidence.

I just ordered some NGK Laser Iridiums for my Tundra last month from Parts Container and out of curiosity, I checked the plugs against the NGK authenticity website and of course they passed. :)
