Toyota cartridge filter

Last evening I got the itch to do the first oil change on my 2008 Sienna. The cartridge filter is just as easy to change as a normal filter. Used a Toyota filter and 6.5 quarts of Pennzoil 5w30 conventional.

What engine? The cartridge in my 5.7L Tundra is sort of a drawn-out, lengthy process...

Nice! I didn't know the Sienna used cartridge OFs or 6.5qts of oil. Do the filters load from the top or bottom? My 2008 Ody has a small downward facing spin-on that I can remove/replace without ramps, etc. I'm going to ride out the OCI to when the OLM tells me to, which seems to be around 6-8Kmi for the Ody. It only reads in 10% intervals. I'm at 80% at 1600mi.

3.5L V6. I didn't bother with the "drain plug" and the plastic insert. I just unscrewed the whole housing and let the oil run.
Filter is changed from the bottom and is easy to access.

Glad to hear it's easy; my friend had a problem with the O-ring not seated (Mini Cooper S) and leaked a few quarts of Syntec on his new driveway! Guess it depends on which car you buy.

I was dreading the thought of a cartridge in my future... seems most manufacturers are slowly are heading that way.

My Mazda cartridge requires much more effort than a spin-on. First I unscrew a annen head bolt to drain the filter. next I unscrew the thermoplastic housing cap and remove the cartridge. Install new cartride and put a new o-ring on the thermoplastic cap and tighten, using a cap syle filter wrench. Next put a new o-ring on the drain bolt and install. After checking for leaks, I must replace the undercover, using the 7 screws and one plastice lock tab. Took me about 60 minutes the first time as a search for the correct allen wrench etc. I think now that I know what & how, I will be doing it in 20 minutes or so. The spin-on was a great idea. I could purchasethe piece that would allow me to use spin-ons but, at ~$40, I will keep using the cartridge.

I can change the cartridge filter in my Saab 93 without even getting my hands dirty. Or crawling under the car.
