I am going to visit my grandparents, and while there, I plan to change the oil in their 08 Sienna van. I picked up a filter for it, and it's a cartridge type. Can anyone tell me where the filter is located, and if I'll need a special wrench or tool to remove the housing? Thanks in advance.

COPIED THIS FROM TOYOTA NATION:

Cannister on the front side of the engine just below the exhaust manifold

You need to get the filter element from the dealer, it will come with the o rings and a fitting to drain the filter.

use a 3/8" drive to remove the filter drain cover, drain it. Next, use a 65mm 14 Flute filter wrench to take the filter out.

The oil filter should be easy to locate on the 2GR-FE motor in your Sienna. If I recall correctly it is inverted towards the front of the vehicle, on the driver's side if that makes sense. I've heard that you can remove the aluminum cover of the oil filter housing using a 14 flute, 65mm oil filter cap similar to the one seen here as an alternative to buying the special tool from Toyota.

Oh, looks like panthermike posted the same info. So, I think you are more than ready to find and replace that filter!
