The wife volunteered my services to a girl she works for to fix her door handle. It's a 2000 Camry and the drivers door handle is broken on the outside. Looking on the web it seems that there's a big problem with Camry door handles on the 97-02 models. Anyhow, dealer wanted to charge her $125 for the part and another $176 to install! I found a new handle online - even painted the correct beige color - for $32 shipped. I'll install it for her when it comes in.

If anyone's changed the drivers door handle on a 97-01 Camry - anything to look out for? Seems like a straight forward job after door pad removal...but you know how simple can quickly become a mess!

I just replaced one on a 97 a couple of weeks ago, it wasn't too bad of a job, the only thing that was wierd is the aftermarket handle I bought from a place on Ebay, came with metal threads and the factory one had plastic threads which didn't match. I had some extra bolts in my garage so I took care of it, yours may not be the same. 7-8 screws and 1-2 more fasteners on the door panel and 3-4 bolts for the handle and lock. a screwdriver with a magnetic bit comes in handy for the job, other than that I can't think of anything, good luck with it.

Thanks 94supraonchrome! I bought this door handle for her off eBay - probably the same outfit!
