My current favorite street performance oils are GC and multivis RL (10W-30). We've usually got plenty of both on hand.
I have run either one or the other year-round. They are both unique formulae. But they are not complimentary formulae. One of the high priests around here recently advised not to mix them in the same change. And RL often presents some unusual early UOA readings when changing over to it. It is unmatched in high temp environments, but I think it bettered by GC in extreme cold conditions.
With seasonal ambient extremes becoming more common around here (from subzero to over 100F.), I'm now considering changeovers from RL in summer to GC during winter in my R.
The current Volvo R engine presents an interesting oil load dynamic: while it can create severe thermal loads during summer, it also develops about 40 extra hp in the very coldest winter weather.
Each oil should show its best during those respective seasons. But it presents a rather sharp chemistry shift going back and forth every few months.
Thoughts?
