What's the working range on that in-lbs torque wrench? It's likely useful for your car.

I misread this, as I replied earlier assuming that you meant how to calibrate a beam type. To use a beam type to calibrate other types just use a socket on one and a hex socket on the other. For a click type set it, and then apply torque with the beam until the click type clicks, and see if it's accurate enough.

The one you got is great for valve covers, spark plugs, drain plug, auto trannie pans, oil pans. You'll save the cost of the wrench since stripping any of those is a pain. You can get a mutliplier for it and do just about everything except wheels. For wheels a $9 beam 1/2 is ok.

I have the big one and almost always need the 3/8.

Like already said, it's a useful range. If you need to convert between ft-lbs, in-lbs and Nm, make use of a "torque converter".

in-lbs to ft-lbs is easy, just divide by 12
ft-lbs to in-lbs is also easy, just multiply by 12.

i.e 144 in-lbs is 12 ft-lbs

My car's wheels are supposed to be torqued to 100 ft. lbs., but I find that I can get them plenty tight with a regular length 1/2" drive ratchet.

My long handled 1/2" drive ratchet gets them too tight in my opinion.

is a clik wrench a ratchet that cliks or a bar with a resettable button that pops when torque is reached?

A click type torque wrench will sort of "break away" when the torque setting is reached. This is so you can feel when you have reached the set torque value. It will also make a quiet click sound at the same time.

So basically you set the torque value simular to a micrometer scale, then lock it in place, and you're good to go.

t/y goldenrod, the only reason i ask is coz i have one of each and wondered as to terminology. btw mine both break away at torque time with a clik
