There's deep mistrust that certain areas of dealerships are untrustworthy, but I've done detailing, parts department, and technician. The guys doing the actual work are not out to screw anyone for the most part. Yeah, there's some slimy parts departments that are trying hard to sell unnecessary things or have convoluted policies, but most seem to be good. Usually, slimy parts departments also tend to reflect from how the rest of management is at the top.
Working the parts department is a thankless, but important job. I don't do it anymore and when I'm at any parts store or dealership I'm always patient and just let them do what they need to. The best guys are the ones who have been there a long time and know the common parts and always keep them in stock.
