Titanium in oil

Hello to all,

I'm reading on this forum more and more about oils that have Titanium mixed in as an additive. Is this stuff for real or just a new 21st century gimic????

I'm trying for the first time in 2 years some Kendall synthetic that has this additive but didn't buy if because of this stuff.

IMO gimmick. Who really knows?

Titanium dioxide on silica is being developed as a form of odor control in cat litter. The photocatalyst is vastly cheaper than silica beads per usage and effectively eliminates odor for longer.,further... The safety of the use of nano-particle sized Titanium Dioxide, which can penetrate the body and reach internal organs, has been criticized. Studies have also found that titanium dioxide nanoparticles cause genetic damage in mice, suggesting that humans may be at risk of cancer or genetic disorders resulting from exposure.

I could be wrong but compared to moly it is cheaper bingo we take out moly and if we have boron that too. More profit eh??? Might need sodium but that we know is cheap. IMO gimmick that adds to the billions we are already making. Do I hear $5 a gallon??????

Afton Chemical, one of the major suppliers of additives to oil blenders, developed the Liquid Titanium. I've read their patent, and the goal was to find a lower cost replacement for moly in oil. ZDDP produces a hard, wear resistant, high friction "tribofilm" on the contact points of moving parts. ZDDP plus MoTDC or other moly compound produces a hard, wear resistant, low friction tribofilm. ZDDP plus Liquid Titanium does a very similar job at lower cost.

Hello guys/gals,

I was just wondering about this new liquid additive that was developed for the auto industry. It may be simular to moly but has it been proven to lubricate with simular results than the typ[ical moly???? It just appears this came out on the market all of a sudden. I haven't heard anything about this earlier.

kendall is great oil at a reasonable price in most places if you can get it cheap i would use it because it is a great oil and if its cheap its really really great! lol

If "liquid titanium" is new promising technology, why there is no titanim in last Motorcraft 2011 oils 5w30 (both full syntheic and synthetic blend) made by Conoco? Kendall GT-1 API SN (2011 year) has LT, but Motorcraft API SN(2011 year) has no LT (information form VOA and UOA). Last Mobil 1 oils (2011 year, API SN) has no LT too.

"Flash in the pan" technology perhaps. Initially promising but then some negatives appear. Time will tell if it sticks around as an AW additive. It certainly never replaced moly in the premium oils.
