Tires for 2002 Tahoe

I bought 4x LTX M/S's for my Expie for $1012 CANADIAN pricing, installed, balanced, new stems blah blah blah out the door pricing with lifetime free rotation from Ford.

That's INCLUDING taxes.

That's just over $220/tire Canadian. American pricing is definitely better than ours, so I'm at a loss as to why somebody can be paying up to $250/tire for these things south of the border.

This is of course 265/70/17 size (Ford Expedition).

I'm seeing the M/S2's for $213/tire on Tirerack FWIW.

Oh, and our experience with them mirror's Steve's. They last the longest and continue to provide the best traction with age and wear.

I buy 265/70/17's for a couple of Silverado LT's we own and they cost us well under 200 bucks each for LTX MS2's. I think we started at like 180 dollars each!

That was this last Summer.

I have owned all full size SUVs for the past 20 years. A new one every other year, with new tires after 1year on most. Lots of tire experience.
I will skip every tire I didn't like and share the pertinent details. I have used both the Michelins and Alenzas on full size SUVs. Both made it to the 60k mark, but needed changed. The Michelins were a good overall tire, and provided good response in braking, and handling all the rain, snow, ice, etc. the Alenzas did will with weather also. They were a little quieter as well. Both are very good tires, but pricey. I recently needed tires on my Tahoe, so I went unconventional and tried Cooper. Their CTS is somewhat of an Alenzas clone. Rated to 70k miles. I have 5k on them now. Great in rain, snow, and ice. Quiet on the highway. Very nice tire, especially given it was $90 per tire less expensive than the other two. It will take 6 months for me to rack up 25k miles to comment on wear, but I have no indications they won't make it 60k like the others.

Look into this option as well.

SON OF A GUN!!!! I just priced out the tires locally to prove my earlier comments and the site hiccupped and lost it.

Here we go again...

RE: Tirerack pricing. Yes, the P265/70R17 M+S2's are $213.99 each. However, don't forget you have to pay to get them M&B'd locally( plus new stems, dispose of old tires, etc... ). Also, that price does not include shipping. For a set of 4 to me it would be $88.80( I lucked out and the local CT warehouse had them or it would have been a lot more ). So actually $236.19 each( $213.99 + $22.20 )PLUS local M&B, stems, etc...( another $25-$30 p/tire ). The LT265 E's are $240 each at Tirerack. The closest warehouse with them is in LA and shipping would be $190.98 so $240.00 + $47.75 = $287.75 each PLUS local M&B, stems, etc... Tirerack individual pricing is good but when all is said and done it is never that low.

As far as your comments that you are at a loss that the tires could cost what I said they did down this way. Here are some current, local, prices from national and regional tire chains( all of which can be verified online by you if you so desire - most it is just tire pricing but a couple include M&B ). The prices are regular everyday prices and do not include any rebates or specials that may be ongoing(???)...

Michelin LTX M+S2 265/70R17:
NTB Seabrook, NH = $232.99(P) / $249.99(LT/E)
Sears Newington, NH = $260.96(LT/E)
Sullivan Tire Stratham, NH = $244.00(P) / $258.00(LT/E)
BJ's Portsmouth, NH = $252.99(P)
Costco Nashua, NH = $247.99(P)
Town Fair Tire Seabrook, NH = $250.00(P)
Sam's Club Seabrook, NH = $248.33(P) / $261.88(LT/E)
WalMart Epping, NH = $271.24(P)

So as you can see my comments that the tires run $220-$250 was actually pretty accurate if not even conservative. Why would I lie about something like this?

Business pricing or average Joe walk in off the street regular retail?

Of the tires mentioned, I'd go with the Bridgestone, just because of some experience with the tire. No experience with the Kumho.

On the whole Michelin versus Firestone Destination LE, I'd easily go Michelin if I could stomach the cost. Not because I don't like Firestone, but because of experience with poor treadlife on the LE's. My experiece differs from NHHEMI, and is based on my personal use as well as fleet use on SUV's and 1/2 ton pickups at work. In our use, it is not a 60k tire - more like 40k at best. We're having better luck with the Destination AT - now standard in our fleet when availible. May not be the right tire for your application though, given the choices mentioned.

Have you checked Ford? That's where my price came from. They were significantly cheaper than everywhere else and included everything I mentioned.

I picked up my LTX M/S 235/75R15 tires for $100 each installed a year or so ago. They've been great.

From everything I've read and my experience with the lesser regarded LTX A/T's I think they're worth the money up front just for their longevity.

Traction seems great in the wet and dry.

Actually I bought from Discount Tires Direct online and had them installed by my favorite tire guy. Even he said that the price was ridiculously low. I'm pretty sure it was less than his wholesaler charged him per tire.
