That & Ram put 285/60/20 & 285/70/17 (Rebel) on 8 inch wide wheels. But you are right, what I like and what works best is not always what manufactures do for cost management.

Just go on the Tirerack website, you can see what rim widths are approved for every tire listed. Going outside of those specs will cause handling and uneven tire wear issues. Also in places like here (Ontario, Canada) it is actually illegal to use a wheel/tire combination that is not listed by the tire manufacturer as approved.
