Tire replacement and TPMS

Yes, most people agree that original TPMS sensors on new vehicles last about 10 years, but many aftermarket sensors have batteries that only last 6-7 years. Sometimes that makes it a tough call on when to replace them.

My first set of TPMS lasted 9 years - I was 9.5 years on the second set.

DT charges $72 to replace one TPMS - about $300 for 4 of them without replacing the tires.

If I can buy 4 TPMS for ~~$80 and have them replaced when I get tires for $0 extra it seems like a good idea if your current sensors are even 6 years old.

If my tires are down to 5/32 (from 11 - 12 /32 and I needed a TPMS replaced I would most likely buy new tires early.

Good questions. Can’t wait to see what my independent shop charges.

My local told me $65 when I got new tires last year, but charged me $45. Had another sensor battery go bad a couple months ago and they wanted $85 to replace the sensor and basically suggested that I drive around with the tpms light on until it was time for new tires and take care of it then.

If they were charging $70 to replace one - and $140 to replace 2 and $210 to replace 3 and $280 to do all 4 -

I would try and negotiate it down to get all 4 for $210 or whatever - if they wouldn't give me a break to do all I would just do the bad one.

My daytime running light burned out - I had a new spare left over from a different vehicle - same part number.

It was a pain to replace - cut the back of my hand - but I got it done.

I said next time one burns out all 10 of the front lights are getting replaced.

This was almost 2 years ago - I should order the bulbs - that way I wouldn't ever need them!
