Tire Rack Installation?

Please don't misunderstand, we have many tire stores localy that I can purchace tires and all the extras and they are all held in high reguard here in may area. We just don't have DT and their better pricing. Also,I can take my tires just about anywhere to have them installed and pay more to get free flat repair and tire rotations and even pay for RHW from the online tire store but, I don't want that. If, and only if I get a flat, I'll pay for a patch. I do my own tire rotations so that I can assure myself that I torque my lugnuts exactly the way I want them and it also gives me a chance to inspect brakes and other components for ware. And, as far as RHW, I don't want it either. If I have to eat a tire once in my life due to an unrepairable tire puncture, I'll eat the tire. I haven't needed to yet in 40 years and with all of the money I have saved thus far by not paying for all the extras, I'll eat the tire cost!

Ive never had an issue wth having local retailers meet the TR price including considerations for shipping/tax being part of the equation.
My local firestone foe example has done this on bridgestone tires for me.

No misunderstanding on my part, we have local tire stores too. But as I have found out since they came to the area, they're not DT. And it goes beyond price, to installation and service after the sale. Torqueing lugnuts is the standard service.
However, my point is/was that I see what you're saying (with no DT) about buying the buying from TR and DTD and getting a Wally install. Just feel fortunate that I don't have to make that choice. And was pointing that out to the previous poster mentioning DT in his area. Hope that clears it up.

No, you don't pay for tire rotation, re-balance, fix a flat ... at DT stores.

It depends. The local Goodyear dealers around here were willing to charge me a bit more for installation and write-up the work order as a lifetime balance and rotate.

How much did your local DT charge for install?
Local DT here wants around $30/tire for all carry-in installations, which negates any price savings from ordering through DTD. However, they are usually quite flexible with prices, so I did not try to see how low they would go.

You can have the tires delivered to your installer if you want, but I wouldn't deliver tires to a Wal-mart.
Our W*M also has lifetime balance at a very reasonable cost. I didn't buy that extra. Should I need a rebalance, looks like I'll have to pay. I usually buy tires, have them installed/balanced and leave the installer and never see them again til it's tire time. Usually, the only time that I seem to need a rebalance is about the time I'm ready for tires again anyway. The only tires that I have had to rebalance over the years is G/Y's or some really cheap tires. Better tires seem to hold their balance better. IMHO
Before buying tires online, I would always shop localy and end up at the least expensive place for the particular tire or comparable tire that I wanted. I've had good/decent service at all/most places. All tire stores in my area have all the bells & whistles often included in the price of the tires. SEARS is a joke! They advertise tires at a good price but, when you find out how much they want to install them...KMA! But, they're alway selling tires though! I don't get it, why people want to be Vasolined that hard. It's quite competative in this area. None that I have spoken with will price match the online tire stores.

I hope that I didn't sound harsh, I never mean to be! Ususlly when I write, I'm speaking very gently although it may write/read differently. Maybe I was misunderstanding what others/yourself were writing and I wanted to make it clear why I do what I do!
Most tire stores and repair shops don't want customers on the shop floor as they don't want the liability should someone get hurt. They will escort you to your vehicle if they want to show you what is wrong but, most of the time they don't let you into the garage and they just tell you that you need this or that. I'll always ask them to show me.

It's all good. I understand about the liabilty deal and always ask, and they have no issues, another DT benefit. Part of it I suspect is DT lifts are the low rise type just for tire installation. That said, it only takes a minute while the wheels are off for balance/rotate. Then I stay out of their way. Unlike some places, I have found DT to be very customer friendly.
The guy I deal with now for tires beats Tire Rack prices on any tire he sells. I shop the WWW get the best price and he'll beat it. Takes all the hassle out of it. In this bad economy he'd rather take a little less profit and make the sale. What I like is he is within walking distance, and doesn't try pulling any of the little tricks Mavis Tire was playing when I was dealing with them. I do miss telling the Mavis manager NO to everything extra he'd try and sell.
