Tire mounting lube?

Years ago when I was in school we used regular old antifreeze as lube to mount tires. Probably not the right lube now, at least with the EPA around.
We always using soapy water... Never had an issue with it not being good for the rubber...
that works fine. I think that most of the Murphys stuff is oil based though? Not sure. comes in a big tub of goo and you mix it with water.
My dealership used Myer's Tire Lube for most things, and Hunter tire paste for low-profile and PAX tires.
I'd be more worried about the effects of detergent on aluminum rims than on the rubber of the tire. Detrgents are somewhat acidic or basic depending on their chamistry. With steel rims, the forgiveness factor was probably higher

Dawn has a PH of about 10, pretty basic. Dove is the neutral one at about PH 7.

I've heard stories of soap solutions causing the tire to slip around the rim. Of course, this changes the balance.
NAPA or other good auto parts store has gallons of tire bead lube at reasonable prices. Some of the guys who do many motorcycle tires at home use this.

I recall seeing Silkolene making a motorcycle-specific tire paste.
