Stu - when I click on your link I also get a "streetier" tire - not anything close to the tire you are showing. (Note that it pulls that up for Discount Tire in the Minneapolis Area).

How much is each tire from America Tire ?

Off Topic: Discount Tire Direct.com has their $100 discount for tires for the week of Black Friday. They give you an automatic $100 Off when you purchase 4 tires.

Three years ago around October DiscountTireDirect.com had $100 discount for 4 tires, I bought 8 tires for 3 cars in 2 transations. They may have another $100 discount for 4 tires this year again, when ? I don't know.

Well, that might explain it. Click "select new area" and put in 94025 as the ZIP code. Then reload the link from my post above.

Also, it looks like the above are private-label versions of the Kelly Trail Mark Max tire. If I'm not totally off-base with the tires above, they might be worth looking at.
Ya thats the ones.

I'm considering the Recaps but it seems that they are having trouble getting usable casings in my size.

TreadWright, Inc provides high-quality 31/10.5R15 retread tires at unbeatable prices and at this time we are back ordered by approximately 2-3 weeks on this size tire. You can place phone orders at 877-439-0759 or 605-662-5045 only for this size until further notice.

Word of caution:

Unlike over the road (18 wheeler) truck tires, passenger car and light truck tires were not designed with retreading in mind. They just do not have the long term durability that truck tires do.

As a result, I would be very cautious of purchasing retreaded passenger car and light truck tires. I would recommend these retreads only for slower speed applications.

I would also be cautious if you live in a high heat area. High temperatures accelerate the aging process of rubber.

Update: I stopped by America's tire and told them that I had 2 nearly new tires and 2 almost bald ones and that the tires were discontinued.

The tires are completly out of stock everywhere. Can't order any.

I was hoping that they would offer to help me out someway since I will have mis matched tires.

They won't even entertain that idea. He showed me this tire.

I don't like it. Way too much of a street tire. The sidewalls are too wimpy for the rocks here.

Then he showed me these.

Still more street tire than I want but atleast they have 3 ply sidewalls so thats a plus.

I'm torn now. The fact that they wont budge on the price. Won't even lower the mounting or balancing or anything to keep me happy is irking me.

Maybe I'm wrong? Expecting too much? I dunno but I really don't want 2 completly different tread styles on my Jeep. I don't want to buy 4 tires since I bought 2 brand new ones from them last june but I would if they worked with me on them but they wont.

I'm thinking that they lost a customer for life about this.

Call and talk with the district manager. I have found them to be more understanding and accomodating of special situations.

At a minimum I would expect them to buy back your remaining tread at a prorated price, as you suggested. When I have had a tire go bad (tread separation) and said I didn't want the remaining ones anymore because they couldn't be trusted, that is what they did.

Expecting too much? Yes, you do.

You bought the 2 tires 4-5 months ago, now you want to return it to buy 4 different tires, what do you think they can do with the 2 used tires ?

If I was you I would put the two tires on Craiglist and buy another set of 4 matched tires of your choice. You will loose some money from selling the two almost new tires as used, but there is no other way if you want 4 matched tires.

Buyer beware - tires come and go, especially in what I'll call non-name brand tires. If you wanted a matched set of 4, the only way to guarantee that would have been to buy four at the time you bought two. It is what it is... You are insisting you have a matched set, their point is you left without a matched set then, why should we be responsible for matching the set now.

The suggestion to sell the two on craigslist and get set up with 4 new ones if matching is important sounds like the best solution here...

Ok today was a good day and Americas Tire has redeemed themselves.

The guy at store #1 told me flat out that there were no more tires like I had available anywhere.

I went to a different store today just too see what was available in different brands. I wanted to see the tires for myself.

This guy did a search and found several of the discontinued Pathfinder AT tires at other stores. I couldn't get them today but they were available.

I was really considering the Falken rocky mountain which isn't as aggressive as I'd like but they are better than a street tire.

But they only had 1 in my size.

He asked why I didn't want the BFG T/A KO's. I did want those but I felt the price was out of my range. They were in stock.

He pushed some buttons and gave me $50 off if I bought 2 of the BFG's that are nearly identical to the 2 newer Pathfinders I had on the rear.

I couldn't turn that deal down so I got 2 of those. They have the HD sidewalls that I need too.

I felt this was a good deal so I'm much happier with America's Tire now.

I believe I would be giving a call to corporate to let them know about the manager that blew you off on the initial search. I think they would honestly want to know that they almost lost a customer, and why.
