Heading up to college soon its a four hour drive and need a new tire and im on a budget but still want good reliability I have heard good tires that are cheap are:

kumho, hankook, and general

I have been calling tire shops around my area and they dont have any in my vehicle size

the only tires they have for cheap are WestLake tires a private brand from Yokohama I think?
never heard of them and dont want to put on tires that are [censored]. These tires I could get for $68 including mounting and balance.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?? Yes I have checked Tire Rack! lol

You say that you've checked Tire Rack so why not get the BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S? Are you trying to stay away from directional tires?

Even if they don't have your tire in stock, they can always order them. Just ask them for a price. Usually takes a couple of days. All my local tire shops will also price match to online retailers and they usually only charge balancing instead of mounting/balancing if you buy it at their shop so even though you might pay sales tax, it's easier in the end because if you have any problems with the tire, you take it back to the shop, if you got them from tirerack, you'd have to send it back to them. If you don't care that much, Costco or BJs usually has decent pricing, but their tire selection isn't always the greatest.
 
See if Yokohama makes a tire that will fit in your price range. I had some on an old Integra and Civic and they were excellent (and quite reasonable at the time).

Edit: just looked on Tire Rack, Yokohama doesn't have a tire in this size anymore. If the ones you mentioned above are indeed made by Yokohama they may not be as bad as you fear. They make decent tires (many in the USA). Alternatively, my sister has those General's on her '00 Accord and has never had a complaint about them.

On tire rack the cheapest tire is a fuzion touring for $67 shipping included those tires dont have installation and balancing included lol
 
Another place just said that they have Falken Ze322 for $55? or Falkken Z912 for $60
 
Do you need one tire or a set of tires? It's hard to tell from your first post. If you need one just get a used tire with 50% or more tread unless your other three are new. A used tire around here is usually $40-50 and will have 40-70% tread, sometimes you get lucky and get a match if your other tires are fairly common.

(assuming you not AWD)
 
If you can get it done at a costco I would recommend it. Not only are they consistently the cheapest, but they also have free flat repair, and at some places free tire rotations.

I do only need one tire and the others arnt used but is it worth it and is it safe?
 
If the other three are almost new, then just get a new tire. That way you have a warranty. Make sure you use a chain that has locations near your school in case you have problems.
 
BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S (H- or V-Speed Rated) 79$ each (460 AA A)

or

General Altimax HP 64$ each (440 A A)

Those 2 seem to be great choices.

If you want dead cheap tires:

Fuzion Touring at 49$ a tire (seem to have good reviews)

Sorry posted before seeing you want really cheap with mounting and balancing..

I wouldnt put Westlake tires on anything.. consistently rated poorly. Personally if you are tight on funds, I would rather buy a well rated set of used tires than I would a set of brand new poorly rated tires. That, or better yet see if someone will lend you a few extra bucks to put better tires on your car. You wont regret it. I almost lost control and ended up in a ditch on my last set. Dont make that mistake.
 
I personally had bad experiences with Kumho tires as they will appear to be great values with their cheaper prices & excellent specs on paper.

Once you get them on the road you will soon realize quality are sacrificed somewhere! I had side wall developing blisters prematurely & tread separations on two different sets in the past.

Quality doesn't come cheap in the beginning, but it is cheaper in the long run.

Viva2 are a decent cheap tire. I know ill get flamed for it but the douglas xtra track 2 arent bad either. Walmart sells them. I have them on my wifes car is handles good drives good and does good in inclinate weather.
 
Yokohamas aren't bad tires. pretty decent. Another one that I'm using atm and really like a lot is the General Altimax HP. Great tires and are priced decently.
 
wait wait if hes buying one tire? match the current ones.

Please try to make a more clear/concise post if you want actual helpful information.


I would read the below as wanting a set.

be prepared to spend 400$ or so for a good set out the door.
