Tire cracks!

First, is the Malibu wheel wide enough for 225/60 ? It needs 7" wide, at the very minimum 6.5" wide.

Going from 205/65-15 to 225/60-15 will get firmer ride, better dry traction, worse on wet surface and snowy roads. It may rub too.

Being worse on wet surface is a deal breaker for me. I'll just stick with the 205/65. Besides, I didn't notice it was $20 more per tire for the larger width, negating the low cost tire search.

Are the hazard warranties that DT has any good?

Have you figured it out - or do you still need help with the sizing?

Personally, I don't think you ought to be messing around with a different size. P205/65R15's are incredibly popular and not only should you find what you want, you'll find it at a good price. Besides, the problem you had had nothing to do with tire size.

Be careful with the Kumhos. My tire man quit selling them completely after they stiffed him on a bunch of 40,000-mile tires that didn't even last 20K. Also, Kumho doesn't seem to be able to produce four tires in a row that are actually round. One always is out of round. Obviously, I'll never buy another Kumho, even for my utility trailer.

I called up Discount Tire. They said to pricematch Tirerack, they would also need to factor in shipping, which means $62+12.50 shipping=$74, which is about the same price the tire is on their DT Direct website. They also said they would need to order the tires and that would take 2-3 business days, and I would need to put down a deposit. Final out the door cost including tax would be $405.

Does that sound like a good deal? Honestly, I don't see any other tire that could be had this cheap, especially an "ultra high performance tire."

Yeah, I just kind of thinking out loud with that post. Nothing wrong with my OE tire size.

As far as I can tell from the hundreds of tire reviews I've read in the past 24 hours, any tire manufacturer can have the same problems. I've had terrible Goodyears before too, but it also seems to vary from tire to tire from the same manufacturer.

If price is a big factor, your cheapest out of door price at discount tire is $334 less $50 visa gift card for Falken Ziex ZE-512.

The tires list at $60 each and you don't get price matched upwards on both shipping and a higher install fee.

This price is cheaper than discount tire directs price on the same tire so seems to be a good value as the bricks and mortar price does not need a price match.

Btw, did you look at Costco? They have some coupons going right now for money off Bridgestones and also money off install.

A large number of reviews for that tire seem to complain about 10,000 mile tread life and slipped belts...

I don't have a Costco membership.

I'm going to stop by the store tomorrow since it is on the way home and see if they can negotiate some other better tire for a price similar to the Kumho Ecsta ASX, otherwise I might just go ahead and get those.

I stopped by Discount Tire and settled on the Kumhos. Nothing really came close to them for the price. They had to order them from the warehouse and they should arrive later this week.

I was a little irritated that the price on DTD went up to $75 from $73 since Friday and they would not take my word for it and they could only match the current price. Also the fact they want to charge $19.99 per tire for install because it is an "outside tire sale install" even though it is just a price match from their sister store, versus the standard $16. Those two things amount to $24...very minor in the overall price but still significant when it comes to my perception of their service.

But they still seemed nice and I'll ask again when the tires come in. I don't think it's unreasonable.
