Tips on removing spark plug leads?

Does any one have any tips on removing spark plug leads?

I have broken a few in the last few years, I can feel when the clip that attaches to the plug is sticking so on my 22R Toyota engine I have tried holding the boot with a pair of long nose pliers where the clip is situated when pulling of the boot which sort of helps.
But on my 3rz Toyota engine the boots sit in long tubes so the pliers are out of the question.

I don't have an engine like yours.

Can you try twisting the boot to kind of "break the seal" of both the boot and the electrical lead?
I did a tune up on my Taurus last week, I figure it has been 5 years and 90,000 miles since it was done last. Those boots were on there very well and I thought that I was going to rip one or leave a lead behind. Lots of twisting and nothing separated.

They are soft silicone and break easily. Plus, they really sick to the spark plugs, don't they?
A special tool from an auto parts store may let you grab them, twist, then pull them off. But we can't count on it.

There are special plug-wire pliers that will allow you to twist and then pull off the wires. When you install new wires, use dielectric silicone grease on the inside of the boot that goes onto the plug to help with sealing and removal later. Lots of luck!

As others mentioned twist and pull, and hope for the best. I used the dielectric silicone grease it is a big help, and can actually save a set of wires from being damaged at the next plug replacement time.
