Tip: Spray Spark Plug Rubber Insert with Silicone Spray

Spray the sponge rubber plug holder in your spark plug socket with silicone spray. This will prevent it from pulling off the socket from even a quick-release (locking) extension bar. Not a good thing to happen in a spark plug tube on the "dark side" of your engine.

I usuall buy a packet of silicon diaelectric compound at the sametime I get the anitseize when purchasing spark plugs, itll cost you 2 bucks for both...and they are right there on the check out counter as a reminder....but a slightly warm motor will generally help let go of those stubborn boots.

Funny thing is that it works for both, youve got to goob the end of the plug and some of the enamel...so its like dual purpose.

careful, silicone is a great insulator. it also virtually guarantees anything it touches cannot be soldered, altho this isn't usually a problem for spark plugs. It would seem that spraying it into the socket would get some on the plug tip.

I still prefer a socket and extension epoxied/glued, or otherwise permanently attached.

All you have to do is spray the plug holder inside your socket once. It could even be a year before you use it. Don't make this complicated . . . it's simple and it works!

The female spark plug contact should push the silicone out of the way as it slides onto the male sparkplug end.
