Ting.com for cellphone?

Anyone use ting.

My verizon contract is up in 10days

I purchased the 43$ old refurb "smartphone" from ting and going to try them out for a month.

bill should be around 35$ for smartphone vs 90$ with verizon.

I used to use my cellphone and data for work.. now not so much will be nice to look forward to 50% plus smaller bill.

verizon has hopefully [censored] me off for the last time.

never had problems with their actual service.. just their billing and customer service ignorance.


If ting is good the GF will get the "smartphone" and I'll probably pony up for a nice smartphone. Even if I purchase the 500$ htc one I would break even in about 4 monthes (including selling current phone)

Ting is no contract.. you pay for what you use.

last 3 monthes ive averaged 300-500min, 400-500 text, 200-1000MB data

that works out to about 33$+ regulatory fees.(on ting)


GF used 1700m, 600text, 0 data

she is either going to go ting, or straighttalk unlimited

anyone have any comments?

Main motivator is I'm losing my 22% verizon discount
(supposed to get a 15% one)

but they rejected my employee verification 4x now..

also other carriers now have better service here

for example about last year people's cellphones started actually NOT dropping calls where I work. before this only verizon would keep a signal inside.

Ting is on the Sprint network? How is Sprint's reception in your area? In my area Verizon is the best so I went with Pageplus. Much cheaper than Verizon.... they use Verizon towers.

With WIFI all over the place I find I use much less data than I used to. Also there are phone apps to call over WIFI. At one time I had unlimited everything. With WIFI I have a $29.95 plan and never use all of it. 1200 mins,3000 Texts, 500 mb data.

I bought a used Verizon Android phone on ebay. Ported my number to Page plus said goodbye to Verizon's bills.

No experience with Ting specifically but I would advise against Sprint towers. Had them for a while in an area with great service and it was still horrible. No 4G, dropped calls and terrible quality. Switched to US Cellular and Im much happier with it. Try PagePlus if it works in your area, Verizon also has great service.

I have heard sprint(towers) is decent around here.

But I am dipping my toe in the water with a 43$ investment.
if it sucks.. no contract so I can move on.

straighttalk at 45$ for unlimited might be an option but I'd rather be even cheaper.

I also have a free home phone now so its reducing my mins.

Ting.com is great! I've eulogized it here a few times. Once we're out of AT&T contract, I'll move there.

my son bought a used Samsung GSII off eBay, excellent shape. His plan costs $27/month + taxes, about $30. That's it. He doesn't use much data, as most of that is off wifi, he's very happy with it.

Also, save yourself $25, by going to twich.ting.com, it will be applied after you've fully signed up. TWICH is a promo code/site from "This Week In Computer Hardware" podcast.

But, it all depends on how good Sprint service is in your area. Phone and basic texting work fine, 3G service is nothing great, but the Wimax, which the GSII has, works well in Nashville. 4G works here, but that phone doesn't have it. No biggie. he's happy, that's all that matters.
