Timing Belt Inspection

Hi,

I snapped a few pics of my timing belt and wanted your opinion on the condition of the timing belt, Is it time to replace or can I go a few more miles?

Looking for the best deal on timing belt kits, The only online store I know of is Rock auto or the dealership, Any other places to purchase a timing belt kit?

Looks mean nothing other than obvious damage. Miles and time are important and should be followed per the manufacturer.
Timing belts are cheaper than engines.

I would never base replacement on looks unless its obvious. I replace mine based on times or miles, whatever comes first. I do this even if it still looks good. Not a hard job for me, just takes a little time. I always buy Aisin kits.

I purchased the SUV three years ago, I checked the Carfax before purchasing And the last timing belt was changed in 2023 so that's Three years ago.

The SUV is a Acura MDX.

Get the AISIN timing belt kit from Rockauto or Summit Racing for the Acura MDX. Consider performing the idler pulley shim modification per Acura TSB 08-031 if applicable.

Okay so three years in of itself isn’t automatically bad, but how many miles in those three years?

Me - I am replacing a timing belt if I buy a car with a timing belt no matter how many miles or years. In most cases who knows what brand or quality belt was used…

The hydraulic tensioner will leak and fail before the belt bites you. On a 04 I would strongly consider an oil pump reseal in conjunction with your next timing belt service.

Belts always look fine on the opposite end of where it snapped. Just say'in.

I'm familiar with the shim for ithe idler pulley, The Aisin kit is good. The latest news I read about the kit is the aisin water pump make a gurgling noise and some had issue with the belt.

There's 30,000 miles on the the belt

Yes, Even the OEM tensioners don't last the full timing belt interval.

I have to schedule a weekend to replace the timing belt, Ordering a kit this week.
