Time to pull the snows

Geez, what a mild winter here. I think I'm going to waste the time and put the all seasons back on. Seems like the odds are on my side that I won't need snows any time soon; and at 500miles/week I'd like to not wear out these tires.

I guess if snow comes into the forecast I can always swap 'em back on--or just rough it out.

We still have lots of freezing nights forecast for next week, so I'm not going to risk it yet. My 3 season tires are terrible in snow so I'd rather just put some miles on the snows for now.

If the snow comes back, your all seasons will be fine. Honestly I have too many vehicles to worry about swapping winter tires on all of them. I run a quality all season year round & never have issues. I know winter tires are superior but I have always been happy with all season performance.

Yesterday I ordered Cooper Discoverer AT3's for my F-150 to replace my BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A's that are cracking in the tread area. The Coopers are being shipped to my mechanic who will mount and balance them. I might as well swap my winter tires/rims with the new Coopers while I'm there. Any snow we get this time of year melts fast anyway.

It doesn't look like any freezing in the 10-day for us. Was considering it.

I think I may just switch to the Jeep for a few weeks. It's mud tires are horrible in snow so it sat this winter out.

Probably first week in april I will change them out.

I am going to take the snows off my Honda this weekend. I am going to leave them on the Saturn for another few weeks because it's the commuter mule, but the SI sees minimal use in the winter. If it snows again I'll just leave it sit.
I'm excited to get my car back in summer mode!

Personally I think it's the worst time now for roads and surprise conditions. They get lazy or surprised and don't plow or pay as close of attention expecting it to warm up. I recall we had a flash freeze last week and 20-30 pileup.

I limp about in great in winter conditions all seasons and if roads aren't treated well I slide....

I wanted to help make sure my snows were going to give me another full season and just had new all seasons put on this week. I had to put the snows on early last fall to pass inspection as the OEM AS tires were really thin, so they already saw way too much warm weather this season.
Was initially thinking General Altimax RT43s, but ended up buying GY Sport All Seasons. I think the RT43 is probably a better jack of all trades tire, but I run snows anyway and the GYs just sounded more fun for the summer. I think they will get me through any surprise snow/ice and they have been very grippy and fun so far. TireRack had a sale on GYs and there was also a $60 rebate for this particular model ending 2/29...per tire price including shipping ended up being just over $130. Sale price is still on the site, the rebate has been cut to $40...

The thing that clinched the deal for me was that the RT43 reviews mostly came from drivers of cars like Civics and Corollas, the Sport AS reviews had a lot of sporty SUV and bigger sedan drivers that I thought were more like my vehicle.

There couldn't have been more than 3-5 days this winter when snows would have helped around here...and that was minimal at best. One of the mildest I can recall in the past 20 years. Thank you El Nino.

Winter always has to take one late-season swipe at us.

Yup. Same here. It may not be over yet.

Besides, this is likely last season for me on these winter tires, so I don't care if they stay on a bit longer.

I lost 2 mpg with the Altimax Artic over the LTX M/S 2 but I spent considerable time on packed snow road and never got sideways and the Altimax have worn well, lost 1.5/32 on the fronts in 8k.

Realistically it seems average is only 1-2 weeks total over winter in coastal New England where snows help out. Maybe last year it was 3 weeks+.

My preference is to leave snows on the truck and drive something else--but since I don't have that something else, it'll have to do.

The LTX's I have still have something like 9/32's on them. Useless in snow but probably good enough for whatever pops up, and for light ice conditions. The snows have more tread than that but still, why wear them out?

I am mindful of the fact that the last time I had winter issues was a freak April snowstorm, years ago.

Edit: forgot, twice this winter I've had to jam on the brakes, and had ABS on bare pavement. My fault each time, but since I did that this past weekend, in "warm" weather, its fresh in my mind that snow tires have traded traction under all other conditions.

Early this season I bought snows from craigslist. I did not put them on because of the El Nino winter plus the tires already on my winter car are still good. I bought them early and set them aside for next year because I couldn't pass up the good deal on them.

yep, planning on taking the snows off both vehicles in the next few days. When temps get up to the 50's to the 70's it's time to get the soft winter rubber off. I imagine it grinding away like a pencil eraser on every turn (I know it doesn't, but it feels like it with that super soft rubber compound)

Already done this past Saturday.
Summer tires on, lubed up the chassis, cleaned up the rotors/pads and lubed the pins..
Want summer now!!!!!

The GT Radial Champiro Icepro tires I have are lower rolling resistance than my 3 season tires!
