Jesus that's cheap. Just saw a local indy shop quote someone $1600 w/alignment for two KYB quick struts and two KYB rear shocks for a 12 Prius!

Idk that a Taurus is a good example. Every Taurus left on the road has it's rear bumper nearly scraping on the ground.
I also had the Taurus and that was the defect on the Monroe quickstruts. After replacement, they were fine. The factory springs sagged from the start, I got mine when it had under 30k on it and it was already sagging. At least the Monroe springs were thicker and didn't sag.
That was just labor. Indy was a former Ford tech, he was fast, don't recall how long it took, but I think it was under two hours easy. He used to brag how he'd have 8 hours worth of book time and be done in 2 hours and just lave parked for 6 hours before notifying the owner but maybe that was an exaggeration or a special case.

Fact is, we’re not the ones driving your car, so if you are comfortable with KYB, get them. You could do worse. Yeah, in fact you said you did with Monroe.
And yes, I’ve risked my health with the sketchy spring compressor set, and I’ve done it many times. I’m still here, writing this reply. If you’re careful, it can be done. However, when my own personal shop is up, I’m getting the less sketchy wall mounted pro compressor.

Yup, about 2 years is what we got out of our Monroe QuickStruts & OE Spec Shocks in our '06 Mazda3. They're a terrible product today in terms of longevity and the lifetime warranty means less to me than ever before. Especially since, after having to replace them AGAIN(even as a DIYer), you still need an expensive alignment. Monroe is not the product they used to be. Read on!
STORY #2:
I put 4 Monroe Struts & Shocks in a 1988 Accord in ~ 1997 and they lasted til I got rid of the Accord in 2006 and were still good at that time. The only reason that I replaced the Struts & Shocks was due to broken front springs on this Accord. So I replaced all 4 shocks/struts & springs.
STORY #3:
I installed Monroe GAS Shocks(Blue) in the Firebird in my signature in 1988 just due to the fact that I never liked the OE shocks.
And I still have them in this car as I write this and they're still fine. The GAS Shock has helped the suspension ride more consistent compared to the OE in terms of(with the OE)...
a) On cold days the car rode hard
b) On HOT day the car rode soft
c) Since installing them in '88(YES 1988), the car rides more consistent all the time between April & October. And it's a ride that I like, somewhere in the middle. Tight around corners and absorbent over bumps/ruts but not supple.

What did you put back on your Mazda?

On the rear, I replaced with Monroe OE Spec again cause they were under the lifetime warranty. Then we sold the car in about 1 1/2 yrs in 2018.
I replaced everything under warranty at that time including the rear upper shock mounts(in the wheel wells) as well as the front QuickStruts assemblies. And with decent tires & brakes the car sold quickly.
They Monroe’s give a nice ride when they’re new(very happy with that) but turn to rubbish in short order.

That's exactly what mine is doing..
I guess that if you want longevity, use OE.
I can’t answer for KYBs longevity. However if you’re getting rid of your car soon, just get the Monroe warrant.

No I'm not getting rid of it no time soon
IMHO, if spring and rest of the strut is ok then just replace shocks in them. KYB are decent, at least.
I used KYB shocks for the front in Forte while reusing rest of the strut, they are just as good if not better than factory shocks.

My KYB struts were fine, but the springs were so bad, it was comical.
I replaced the factory struts (F&R; used the factory springs) on the Legend with KYB GR-2's when the front end stated to bottom and scrape the underside tow loop when I'd drive up onto our inclined driveway. The KYB's now have ~102k miles on them and they still "feel" ok.
IIRC, the GR-2's are designed and marketed for OEM ride characteristics.

Supposedly, for this particular application, the KYB springs will be a little bit thicker then OEM, according to another forum..
Did that and I regrets it. It was only like $50 ea.
The strut mounts, are built-in to the KYB strut plus on this particular application..
Did you take a look at the control arm bushings when it sagged? My own experience and those that I work with that have used KYB products have all been positive.
