I always enjoy this kind of thing. Some of the older colors are really simple but fantastic, like the red-on-white Agostini-era Yamahas. But of these, the Biaggi-era, Chesterfield-inspired Aprilias are my favorite. The classic Michelin hats were icing on the cake.

Strange that in that official unveiling video they seemingly weren't even allowed to say Marlboro or Chesterfield even though they were showing old clips of Capirossi, Bayliss and Biaggi riding their bikes. Is the tobacco advertising ban really that strict, even in a case like this?

Of course it is that strict, these people are bloody lunatics, the advertising was part of history.

How else can motor survive the costs racing with out the funds from advertising?

If I have one dream, it would be to be good enough, to be a factory rider. Those guys are amazing.

Of the different liveries, I'd choose the 'Fast Freddie' scheme as my favorite. Although the Aprilia nod to all of the American GP champions, was cool too.

And to be clear, I meant that the guy interviewing the riders about the classic liveries did not ever actually say the words 'Marlboro' or 'Chesterfield' when they were clearly designed to emulate them. He was clearly, specifically tip-toeing around saying them. Not sure if that came across that way.

I get it but even in many other forms of motor racing tobacco advertising was a big part, the John Player special black and gold liveries were one of my favorites. In today's world all it takes is one lunatic who is really off their rocker to get their own way. Look at the anti vape and the ban menthol cigarette crazies, these people are as soft as a sneaker full of crap on a hot august afternoon yet in MA they have banned menthol smokes because they say black people like to smoke them. The insanity has no boundaries.

I would have liked to see what they could have done with a Rothmans-inspired livery, or if Suzuki was still in, Lucky Strike.

Yes, I got into Grand Prix motorcycle racing in the early 90's. :)

Interesting...

I like most of them... Im surprised they let them show the clips without blurring the tobacco brands, even back in the day in certain countries that portion of the car /bike would be blank or have a cover over it.. like huge piece of black tape.

I had no idea GAS GAS was in Moto GP ... Actually i sorta thought they went under...
