Three weeks and rear ended

On my way home from school, leaving the school there is a big, long, steep hill. Always worried about it in winter. 3 weeks to the day got my new car, I'm rear ended going down the hill. Nice kid, weren't really angry or anything but it's still annoying. I don't have much damage, probably need a new rear bumper from scratches, but his was alot worse. Pics Below. I'd say he hit me going 5-10mph. Mom is taking it to dealer tonight or tomorrow for estimate.

make sure his insurance pays for depreciation. after all, the car is only three weeks old!! if you trade it in, the dealers will see the body work. nuff said

P.S nice license plate numbers you have there nick

Whoops! Sorry I'll repost the pics later after I've edited them out. Have to wait till 10:30 or so sorry
 
That really sucks, especially since this is your first brand new car and it happened so soon, but at least the damage is not major.

Like other's said, inspect everything underneath, look for cracks in the trunk liner and lenses. Also, make sure the body shop lines up the bumper with quarter panels, it's really important they do not screw this up, as the gap will be noticeable and look ugly. They may try some excuses, don't take no for an answer, it has to look like new again.

How is parking at your school? I absolutely hated parking lots on campus!!! DOOR DING NIGHTMARE. Worst time in life to own a new vehicle, if you have to use campus parking.

On the plus side, it got me back into biking. Saved a lot of time and aggravation. I lived only a couple of miles away though.

Unfortunately, that's the way it seems to go...

You finally get something nice, and Murphy eventually makes an appearance.

I have to caution against dealership body shops... sometimes they aren't the best choice.

I wish that when I was hit from behind last December, that it was like that... and not the $10,000 in damages to my pickup (and the $8,000 in damages...and still counting... to me.)

I hope he didn't say he wanted to give you a check for a few hundred dollars. That is easily 4 figures of damage.

Yeah, my boss got lightly tapped in his '03 SL500 and he also hit the person in front of him. It looked like there was light damage, and the initial damage was estimated at 5k. By the time it was out of the body shop, the bill was $15k.

There's no way any insurance company is going to pay for "depreciation" on something like this. As long as you can get them to pay for new OEM parts and a quality shop, that's the best you can hope for.

The vehicle already depreciated in the three weeks it's been owned. As long as the repairs are done right, I doubt its trade-in value would be affected much, if at all.

+1 My insurance would cover the purchase price of my Tracker for a year or two if it got written off, but I've never heard of an insurance company paying for loss of value due to accident repair.
 
Was the kid behind you tale gating (riding your bumper)? And probably didn't see you stop.

Just curious.
