I can across this video and with the new resurgence of nuclear power, I thought many of you may want to see this small informative video of Three Mill Island's re startup in 2028

There was an article in our local newspaper that Google is buying the power for a data center somewhereI suppose the power will be going to a data center somewhere nearby, or to Langley.
I had to look up the lifetime CF of TMI-1 to see, and probably the last 30 years, it was a banger. Lifetime CF is 78.2% because before that 30 year period, it struggled. CF didn't start to really improve until the mid to late 90's.I worked at TMI for 30 years. It and Oconee were the best running plants in the world. I am still considering going back but right now I am transitioning to living in Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Starting salary for experienced engineers there is $100/hour.
Unfortunately, that's a hard sell right now, given how Summer was cancelled mid construction and Vogtle became a bit of a boondoggle. I'm hopeful somebody picks up the pieces at Summer and finishes that project, at which point we can start looking at other sites that were planned for more units like Seabrook for example. It would be much better if the nukes were coming back to replace fossil fuels instead of powering the useless AI garbage. Heaven forbid we doing something good when there is a quick buck to be made.
The world will be a vastly different place in 10 years due to AI. Mark my words.useless AI garbage. Heaven forbid we doing something good when there is a quick buck to be made.
Yeah AI is going to make things different but only because it is going to make everything into a big steaming garbage pile. I don't think it will ever be able to do the dystopian things. Maybe a mechanical turk at most. The world will be a vastly different place in 10 years due to AI. Mark my words.
- Beginning of UBI (universal basic income) due to massive unemployment.
- Possible caste system for those who can't compete and the "smart ones".
- Robots will be more common place and can do menial jobs such as janitorial and farm work.
- Many people will not drive anymore because:
- Unemployment
- Addictive entertainment options keeping people at home.
- AI / computer / brain interface will make Tik Tok look like childsplay (I know people working on an EEG version of this, basically wireless neuralink).
- DIY movies with quality similar to or better that $100MM Hollywood productions.
- Basically dopamine overflow, society will be addicted and less productive. As long as they are fed, they will not care.
- Medicines that will provide possibly everlasting life to those that can afford it.
- Possible upheaval in stock market due to contraction in auto, airline, and other last century buying trends that the current generation does not care for.
- Local and Geopolitical issues.
- AI control political decisions, I.E. Palantir
- Proliferation of new weapons / super viruses by nefarious actors. Literally some guy in a home lab will be able to DIY something awful.
- AI Facial recognition will reduce crime and to some this may seem like a police state and to others as safety.
- Chicago is supposedly already dispatching drones to crime scenes to verify and assess the threat before police cruisers arrive.
This is just my prediction based on some surface level knowledge listening to the tech prophets of our time. Many predict AI will allow our society to be more creative and entertainment based. Who knows, all I can say is the way of life is going to be massively different IMHO.

"Luddites Smashing Textile Machines" Those AI data centers better be well protected lol.
Yep...look at the only country in the world that has 30% of the Uranium, a swag of Thorium ... and a blanket ban on Nuclear.I remember my father telling me over and over as a kid in the late 60s, that nuclear power was the only abundant energy source that we could count on to power our world once computers began to really take off. Seems he was may have been right.
They have to follow the same regulations as everyone else, no matter who is operating the plant.https://www.netflix.com/title/81198239
The lure of $$$$ gives me concern for a company like google to operate a nuclear plant safely. And no, I'm not anti-nuke.
You are quite wrong IMHO. The world is changing. Enjoy the ride.Yeah AI is going to make things different but only because it is going to make everything into a big steaming garbage pile. I don't think it will ever be able to do the dystopian things. Maybe a mechanical turk at most.
I saw a contractor running MULTIPLE 4" fiber optic lines down 68 several years ago. My bet would be somewhere near Fredrick Md.There was an article in our local newspaper that Google is buying the power for a data center somewhere
