Yes, the V denotes V8. For 1956, it was the 265.
In 1957, the 283 became available.
348 was available in the 1958 models.
265, the 348 came out in 1958, it wasn`t much of a performer but the 409 version was legendary.
The 409 made it into a Beach Boys song. That's legendary right there.
Supposedly, the engine sounds in the song are from a 348.
