I mentioned a few months ago that one of my relatives from Scotland, my great uncle Finn had passed. He left me some things and among them were a few personal items that have been in the family for a long time. Among those things is my great uncle's signet ring, which he got from his father. It's gold ring with a pale blue and chocolate brown carnelian stone that has the family seal cut into it. The seal depicts a bear or dragon atop a knight's helmet atop a shield. The shield repeats the bear/dragon motif above a field of checkers. From the helmet protrudes something I believe to represent some kind of mantle that terminates in two dangly bits that may or may not spell out 25. I haven't done any research into heraldry, so I'm not sure about the exact meanings of the seal's components.
Signet rings were traditionally pinkie finger rings and so is this one. It does fit me but not my lifestyle. It has however a nice piece of family history and memorabilia. I also have the lady's version of this ring. This ring has a darker blue and chocolate brown carnelian stone. I suppose it was his wife's ring. Both rings show signs of having been worn.
