If I hit a shin on one of those, I feel like taking it off and tossing into the bed, if I get a gash, it might go through the rear cab window!

Maybe if there are two hitches back to back at the grocery store, Ill chain
'em together, and watch what ensues. LOL!

Take your hitch off and secure it in the cab or bed.

Same here. When I worked at a paving equipment dealership, leaving the hitch in the receiver was a huge no-no. When you're done with it, stow it.
