I was going through some old photos this morning, and came across this:
1966 (Sept., I think)
USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) in drydock at Yokosuka, Japan.
While operating in the Gulf of Tonkin, she threw one blade on a screw. At the time, a recovery of aircraft was underway, or just completed, I don't remember which. In any case, we were making our own wind, so were steaming at 30 kts, or so. I happened to be in the wardroom (aft, 2nd or 3rd deck, above shaft alley) when the blade let go. To quote Jerry Lee Lewis, there was a "whole lotta shakin' goin'on."
