I would like to know how you all feel about lagomorphs. If you are in the they-are-rats-camp you can take your toys and go home. My wife would love to have a rabbit.
They love to chew on power cords. Make sure your homeowner's insurance has proper coverage, lol.

My FIL and I got a baseball signed by Pete Rose at a shop in Vegas. He found out we were Canadians and said “ I’ll bet you didn’t know I once played for the Expos”. Then in a singing voice he said Oh CANADA . My FIL then said “ OK, now sing it in French”. Pete laughed. Fun memory.

Very cool. This old man and his son had commerative 75 anniversary full sized figurines for $5 each but they didn’t say what player was in box. Wish I’d bought all 3

Love your posts....I think everyone does.
I just gotta tell you. That kid in the photo...he's already bored with that assembly toy.
I can tell you why, too.
It's because there's nothing useful or even relatable which a kid can build. They're like Tinker Toys or LEGOs....they're too abstracted.
Now I'm no expert on child psychology,
But I have been thinking like a child for as long as I can remember.

What? LEGO and similar systems give you a lot of freedom to build whatever you want. I mean a toddler won't build a working replica of a Merlin engine but he can build all sorts of things. It is the same with wooden blocks. A Meccano set or similar is a great learning tool for tweens.
Now I'm no expert on child psychology,
Agreed.

Now I know why BITOG is rated G.

This place is not hopping today. Let me help. Here's a picture of my park bench lunch buddy, the tumor-riddled pigeon that keeps begging me for food. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I feel bad for him or her and drop some crumbs. I gag a little when I see that tumor while eating. The tumor or cyst is a vascularized sac filled with what appears to be pulsating liquid. Street squab, anyone?

Here's something more appealing. I was doing some open water swimming maybe half a mile from shore today. I had my waterproof point-and-shoot camera with me because it's migration season. I didn't get a good shot but I have evidence of a humpback whale slapping the water to stun its prey. That went on for 10 minutes. The whale then dove down, turned around, and came up with the mouth wide open, scooping up several tons of seawater. I did not get that shot. I'm lucky I got that one shot. I only got it because a swell lifted me a few feet higher for a better vantage point at the right moment.

The shape of the fluke tells me this is a humpback. A humpback whale can be about 50 feet long and weigh up to 40 tons. Loch Ness monster picture quality!

Did anyone else see the aurora last night? Woke up around 1:00 a.m. and couldnt get back to sleep and was browsing my phone hoping to get sleepy again and still wide awake around 2:00 a.m., came across an article about the Perseid meteors peaking today so I threw on some clothes and shoes and tiptoed outside. I saw probably two dozen meteors, one of them absolutely huge, in the span of about 20 minutes. We live in a valley a few miles NW of CVG, no light and our only neighbors are 1500+ feet away so our property is extremely dark, great view of the milky way and great for meteors. After a while I noticed the sky was getting bright then dark. But then it got very bright in the north with a greenish hue, with a few narrow beams of whiter light, which then started turning red. It was cycling between white, red, and green. Walked over to the pond at the edge of the woods and snapped a few pictures. I watched for a good half hour. Went back inside and got up at my usual 4:30 a.m. and went outside, saw two more meteors in about five minutes, and the northern sky was dark as can be, no more aurora.
