A few pictures from the pigeon Point area.
Headed toward Pigeon Point.

A weird plant with seed pods right next to the parking lot

I have shown either one or both of those VWs previously. They are usually parked at the hostel that's next to the lighthouse. $270 for up to six people and a private room per night or $45 per night for a dorm room shared with potential serial killers and hippies.

In this, and in the previous picture, you can see the marine layer creeping in. This is the Bay Area's natural air conditioning. As long as you remain within a few miles from the ocean it never gets brutally hot here and the cold season is very mild due to the ocean's proximity.

The lighthouse is in a sad state of disrepair. That's why it's been fenced in and closed off to the public for years. The original fresnel lens from the 1800s has not yet been installed but I believe it has been restored in France some time ago.

At this point, I would show my fiscally responsible roadside food pictures but I must inconvenience you and redirect you to the food forum.
Driving home That structure on the promontory to the left is a radar dome at the Air Force Tracking Station at Pillar Point near Half Moon Bay. That's also where the famous annual surf contest at Mavericks is held - unless it gets canceled.
