The Truck dashboard last night. Dad is racking up the miles on it lol. But it’s not his fault his car has been down cause we can’t figure out the serpentine belt lol.
You'll know this, but the ribbed side of the belt goes on a ribbed pulley (typically all but one), and the smooth side goes on the smooth pulley (typically the idler).

Yeah I do know that haha. But it’s like the tensioner is not tensioning all the way down. We got a new one put it on and it done the same thing compared all belts aftermarket and OEM to the old belt and they match we are stumped and none of the guys I work with can figure it out either they said that’s why they run when they see one of those come in the door lol.

Has anyone recently installed an aftermarket accessory (PS pump, alternator, water pump) with a differently sized pulley?

We put on an Aisin water pump that’s the reason the belt was off is the bad pump. The alternator is aftermarket but has been on for awhile and both have the right sized pulley. It’s all a mystery to me and now it’s so cold outside I can’t bare it lol.

New additions to the collection today all waiting on me when I got home. To start off the haul is a set of Texas Disabled Veteran U.S. Armed Forces plates. I found this set for cheap it was only $8 plus a little bit for shipping and the next cheapest set i could find was $29 so I scooped these up. Next up is a plate of a state where I have lots of family that’s the state of Arkansas. Thank you someone on another forum for the Arkansas plate. I greatly appreciate it. And it expired in my birth year too haha. Just I was born in April this expired in August but that’s nice because I collect plates from 2002 since I was born then. Next a set of what I believe are personalized (vanity) old style California license plates. I don’t believe California has used a format like that before with the three letters and 4 numbers but i could be wrong on that. Those are from eBay. The last set I’m pretty proud of to add to my collection because they have the original packaging, registration and decals all never used. It is a set of plates issued to Volkswagen North America because of the lemon law they had to buy back someone’s car and they got plates for it. Cool find on eBay for sure I seen that and for $18 I think it was scooped them up cause I wanted them. I love California font I don’t care for the state but love the font they use on the California on their plates. I kinda want to put the decals on the plates but kinda don’t cause I want to keep them in new condition.

So, this is just a shot in the dark, but is the little pin still in the tensioner? Does the 2004 have the spring on the tensioner like some of the years that followed?
I ask this because you state that the tensioner isn’t acting right. I’m completely baffled by your situation with this belt, especially if you’ve checked that it’s correct. 🤔

Edit- Never mind, I see that those tensioners are a little different than the ones that I was thinking of.
It’s gonna be something simple that you’ll kick yourself over when you figure it out. 😉😂

Does it maybe have two separate tensioners like my friend's Ram truck?
